On Saturday, 11/18, DSS Outreach participated in the ‘Food and Health Empowerment Fair’ hosted by and in Westchester Square, BX, where they tabled and provided information on DSS programs and services.
On Friday, DSS convened its second annual Poverty and Homelessness Symposium, themed Building Bridges out of Poverty. The symposium brought together service providers, advocates, people with lived experience, policymakers, funders, and city agencies for a full day of action-oriented discussions around disrupting the cycle of poverty.
Workgroups will subsequently be formed on each issue discussed in the four panels, and they will be charged with developing ambitious ideas designed to move the needle on measurable outcomes to guide DSS in collaboration with other city agencies and community stakeholders to achieve substantive impact on addressing poverty.

As we commemorate Veteran’s Day, we are proud to have veterans working throughout our agency who continue that great tradition of service by working to help New Yorkers in need. On October 25, 2023, DSS Hosted a Breaking Bread, Building Bonds event, Mayor Adam’s initiative to cultivate New York City’s immense diversity by bringing people together to learn about each other, share cultures and traditions, and break down separations between communities.
Commissioner Park, DHS Administrator Carter, outgoing HRA administrator Fitzpatrick, and incoming HRA Administrator Scott French gave opening remarks as DSS Chief of Staff Karen St. Hilaire facilitated many meaningful conversations during the event.
