Today, on National Missing Children's Day, we pause to remember and reflect on the children who have gone missing and the families who are still searching for answers. It’s a day to reaffirm our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all children in our community.
Let's use this day to spread awareness and educate others on the importance of child safety. Take a moment to learn and share resources that can make a difference in preventing child abductions and aid in the recovery of missing children.
Together, we can make a difference.
Tawanna is a true example of perseverance and not letting life’s curveballs slow her down! Speaking all across the country, she has become an advocate and activist dedicated to youth mentorship and coaching, with a specialized focus on youth in foster care. Tawanna proudly says, “I am a CASA kid through and through.”
Just yesterday, in only 3 years, Tawanna graduated from Seton Hall University with TWO Bachelor of Arts degrees—one in Political Science and the other in Africana Studies. She was also one of seven recipients of the prestigious Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Honors Program academic award. And there’s no stopping her! Next up, she’s studying for the LSAT and heading to law school.
We are so proud of her and all the graduates of the Class of 2024!
This month, we honor and recognize the resilience of thousands of children and youth in foster care, and the unwavering dedication of those who support them. CASA of Essex plays a vital role in ensuring that every child in foster care has a champion and a voice.
Through advocacy, mentorship, and persistent care, CASA volunteers are the superheroes these children need and deserve. They strive every day to ensure that every child's rights and needs are at the forefront, pushing for safer, healthier, and happier environments.

Special shout-out to who graduated yesterday from Wellesley! For the last 3 years, Haysie has been the behind-the-scenes powerhouse of our social media. It’s hard to believe she started with us her freshman year and now she is a graduate with a degree in Media Arts and Sciences and a minor in Education Studies. We are so proud of her and all the Class of 2024 graduates!
See you tomorrow Sunday, 5/19 - at Maplewood Mayfest on Springfield Ave. between Indiana and Rutgers Streets. Lots of fun to be had by all!

Special Shout-Out Tour 1!!
May is National Foster Care Month, and at CASA Essex, we are committed to recognizing the vital role that everyone in child welfare plays in supporting children, youth, and families. This year’s theme, “Engaging Youth. Building Supports. Strengthening Opportunities.”, emphasizes the importance of creating a child welfare system that truly connects with and empowers our young people, especially as they prepare to transition out of foster care.
Together, we can ensure that every young person in the foster care system feels supported and has a strong network of opportunities waiting for them. Our CASA volunteers are dedicated to listening to, advocating for, and standing beside our youth, helping to build a brighter, more stable future.
Let’s celebrate the achievements and address the challenges faced by these incredible young people. Join us in making a difference.
This , as we celebrate the epic tales of heroes and mentors in a galaxy far, far away, let’s also shine a light on the heroes among us. Every day, CASA volunteer advocates stand alongside foster youth, guiding them with dedication and wisdom.
We are incredibly grateful for our CASA volunteers, who make a profound difference by being a steadfast presence in the lives of the youth they serve. Like the mentors of Star Wars, they help navigate the challenges—offering hope, guidance, and support.
Here’s to our real-world heroes on May the Fourth! Thank you for being the force of good in the lives of so many young individuals.
“Uniting a Brighter Tomorrow” - today, we shine a spotlight on the real superheroes of our community - the courageous firefighters at and our dedicated volunteer advocates! Just like the heroes in capes we see in the movies, these incredible individuals bring hope and protection to those in need every day. Our firefighters and advocates don superhero capes, literally and figuratively, showing that everyone has the power to make a difference.
April has been National , but our commitment doesn't stop as the month ends. Every day, we must continue to fight against child abuse and neglect by ensuring that all children have access to the resources they need to thrive.
Remember, the safety and well-being of our children is a year-round priority. Keep the momentum going by staying informed, involved, and ready to act.
Together, we can make every month a step towards stronger, safer communities for our kids.
