There is just ONE week until we reunite with our students on the first day of school. On Wednesday, 8/21, we'll welcome our entry-grade students back to school, and we can't wait for all students to join us on Thursday, 8/22.

Three years ago, KIPP Seek Academy teacher Yasmin Spain returned to the Maple Avenue building where she attended elementary school. Since then, she has helped the next generation of Newark students discover community and connection in the historic building.

Last week, team members and interns from the Newark office and four NCA student leaders came together to paint and prep 22 classrooms for the new school year. A special shoutout to Annabelle Wright, Class of 2021 and current Duke senior, who returned as a PGIM intern to help out. A huge thanks to PGIM!

to Picture Me Tomorrow Day, where our students dressed as their future selves, with some even channeling the legendary Simone’s recent Olympic performance shows exactly why she’s a role model for our kids. Keep reaching for the stars, just like Simone!

As our national Presidential election heats up, we look forward to watching civics learning come alive for students this fall. Last November, KIPP Seek Academy hosted its first-ever Student Government Association election, complete with ballot boxes, candidate speeches, and campaign swag!

....Last week, the KIPP Cooper Norcross High School varsity boys basketball team participated in the 2024 Peace Games Basketball Tournament hosted by Connect the Lots - Camden, and won!

We are so proud of the KHS basketball team and can’t wait to see what they do next year on and off the court as student-athletes.

#4...KIPP Newark Collegiate Academy’s boys basketball team made history this year as they pursued a championship and boasted a 20-6 season record. Led by Coach Jyron Brooks, the team displayed the school's values of humanity, courage, and excellence in every game.

This past June, KIPP Cooper Norcross High School celebrated a critical milestone—graduating the inaugural class of seniors! Despite launching amid a global pandemic, the Class of 2024 is ready to take on the future.

#2...Last fall, KIPP Purpose Academy launched a cross-country team that made waves on and off the track. In only its first year of competition, coaches Kaylarose Scott, Hope Whalen, and Coach Kim led the team to several wins on the track and in the classroom as students developed discipline and drive.

From double-dutch club to sculpture class, students discovered their passions and school staff brought to life one of our core Heartbeat principles: that students should run to school every morning.

… Did you know that statistics show that Black women make up only 3% of the tech workforce? All-stars like Ayokunmi (Class of 2027) at KIPP Newark Collegiate Academy are hard at work every day in the Intro to Computer Science class to change the future face of technology.

Ninth graders can take Intro to Computer Science, which pushes their critical thinking, computational, and problem-solving skills. Once students attain foundational coding skills, they can enroll in Tech Academy classes like Advanced Cybersecurity, Tech and Design, or Advanced Placement Computer Science and earn college credits.

Yesterday, rising KIPP Upper Roseville Academy fourth grader Amber won the USA Track & Field’s National Shot Put Championship! She’s now an All-American gold medalist. Amber runs for the Speedsters Track Team in Newark.

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, honoring the end of slavery in the U.S., and the day the news of freedom finally reached Galveston, Texas. Together, we honor Black history in our classrooms and organization, working together to continuously build a more equitable society.
