We're on the hunt for awe-inspiring mural designs that shout out the fantastic programs at CCE Wayne County! Picture this: a whopping 15-foot-wide masterpiece, towering between 6 and 8 feet tall, splashed across the wall facing Hydesville Road. We might even crown multiple design champs to blend the best bits of each entry.
Calling all artists! We need your creative flair to jazz up this mural with nods to Agriculture, Master Gardeners, 4-H, Nutrition Education, and Community vibes. Since speedy drivers on Hydesville Road will be the mural's audience, think big and bold with simple, eye-catching designs that pop at 35-40 mph. Let's turn heads with your artistic magic!
A selection committee will evaluate the entrants and announce the winner in a press release to the Wayne Times before the Wayne County Fair, August 12-17.
Designs should be submitted by August 7th, 2024 at noon. Please include the designer’s name, age (if under 18), and a short statement of the designer’s connection to CCE Wayne. Designs should be emailed to [email protected] with the subject line “Mural Contest”, or may be submitted by bringing them to the CCE Wayne office (1581 Rt. 88 N, Newark, NY 14513) between 8:30 and 4:30 M-F.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wayne Co. is pleased to announce the appointment of Josh Bowman to the position of Ag Economic Development Educator for Wayne County. He is new to the county and originally hails from Lexington, Kentucky. Josh recently graduated from Berea College with a degree in Agriculture and Natural Resources and has experience with livestock, field crops, forest and wildlife management, and horticulture production.
"My ethos around agriculture revolves around sustainability and community, and I hope to build strong community connections while I step into this position. Outside of agriculture, my hobbies include hiking and camping, cooking, biking, and choral music. I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of Wayne County’s agricultural community and I look forward to meeting all of you!" -Josh Bowman

Governor Hochul announced that $7.6 million has been awarded to 12 food service organizations across the State through the 2nd round of funding of the New York Food for New York Families program. Increasing access to local foods, boosting New York farmers, and strengthening the state’s food system has continued to be important goals for New York State. Governor Hochul announced that $7.6 million has been awarded to 12 food service organizations across the State through the 2nd round of funding of the New York Food for New York Families program.
The program’s goals are to boost traditionally disadvantaged farmers, help producers access new markets, fill gaps in the supply and distribution chain and increase access of underserved communities to local food.
Organizations will implement projects that purchase New York-grown food products and distribute them to underserved communities and are also providing technical assistance to help growers sell their products for use as part of the New York Food for New York Families program.

As tornadoes touched down on July 10 in Eden, New York, Cornell Cooperative Extension Erie County staff huddled in its office building’s basement, waiting for the severe weather warning to expire. A few miles down the road, farms were being leveled by 115 mile-per-hour winds, destroying barns, injuring cows and wreaking havoc.
After the storm ran its course, the team sprang to action.
