Whether you love to hear the snap crackle pop or not, it has no bearing on the success of a chiropractic adjustment. Alignment and function are the reasons for an adjustment, the sounds are inconsequential (and really just gas passing through your joints).

The sound of an adjustment can vary (from loud to inaudible) based on the patient and the technique used. A great adjustment doesn’t have to be loud. A great adjustment increases your mobility and function and your overall health.

Many people expect to hear some noise with an adjustment, but interestingly that popping or cracking noise has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the adjustment. Adjustments are for mobility and function and may or may not make any noise. 🎤🔕

Some people love to hear (definitely not see!) that crack with an adjustment, but it’s not necessary. The sound itself is not an indication of the success of the adjustment, but rather a byproduct of the cavitation process. What is cavitation, you ask?
It’s when a sudden change in pressure within a joint causes gases, such as oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide, to be released from the synovial fluid that surrounds the joint. So that crack is your body releasing gas. Nothing to see here. 😉

Does an adjustment have to make a popping sound to be effective? Absolutely not.
A chiropractic adjustment is a procedure in which trained specialists (chiropractors) use their hands or a small instrument to apply a controlled, sudden force to a spinal joint. The goal of this procedure is to improve spinal motion and improve your body's physical function. Popping sounds may or may not occur.
