Our deepest humanity is our highest possibility.
Allowed to grow unchecked, the shadow creates a world of unrelatedness, dominated by the prevailing sense of separateness we feel and the polarization and disunity we experience all around us. A condition we have learned to accept as "normal": "just the way things are."
The shadow is the ubiquitous architectural "substance" upon which our modern society is built and through which it functions. The shadow is the lens through which we look - and from which we derive our view of things. For example, much of what we think of as "Western Civilization" has grown out of the premise of separation, the dominant worldview that focuses on differences and distinctions, on the particulars that make us, our ideas, and our environment.

When we aren’t fully integrated with the painful experiences of others, it blocks us from developing genuine empathy. Where empathy should be, we might instead find that we’re filled with fear, physical tension, and numbness.
Healing from intergenerational trauma requires us to feel the fears of our ancestors – merging them into our present flow. This allows us to cultivate greater empathy for our family members, friends, and other people in our lives.

I know you are trying to show respect and gratitude. But the problem with the word hero is that most people who live through war, most people who live through any long and repeate...
