National Read Across America Day:
Do you know why March 2nd is National Read Across America Day? Itâs because March 2nd is Dr. Seussâs birthday! Theodor Seuss Geisel (also known as Dr. Seuss) was born on March 2, 1904, and in his life, published 46 children's books. Dr. Seuss was also an illustrator who used his art to express his passion about the things that he believed in.
Dr. Seuss is celebrated around the world because he has brought ideas, imagination and inspiration into millions of lives. That is why today, in honor of Dr. Seuss, we are called to action to drop everything and read! Here are some Seussical ways you can read today:
Go to the library to find a book
Turn the page and have a look
Share your story with a friend
Learn about worlds, real or pretend
Raise your voice and read out loud
Tell your story to a crowd
Read a book, and when youâre done
Start to read another one!
To help make sure that all children get to celebrate reading, not just today, but every day, Leap for Literacy is sending books to children in exchange for acts of kindness. If youâd like to help us provide books to children, please donate today.

Do you ever wonder why we have 365 days in a year? Itâs because it takes approximately 365 days for Earth to complete a full revolution around the sun. We say approximately because 365 is the closest whole number to the actual number, which according to the National Air and Space museum, is 365.242190. This means that every regular calendar year, we have .242190 days that arenât accounted for. 242190 might look like a long number, but itâs actually very close to .25, or one quarter. So, every 4 years, we add those 4 quarters up, and we get LEAP DAY!
An extra day in the year is an extra opportunity to impact a life by sharing and spreading kindness. Our goal this Leap Day is to get as many books as we can to provide to children. Weâre calling on you to leap with us, by donating $24.21 in honor of that extra opportunity to do something special. For each donation that we receive, weâll send 4 books to 4 children who earned each book by completing acts of kindness. They did their part, now letâs do ours...
