As we gather for barbecues and graduation parties this Memorial Day, let's pause to honor the true significance of this solemn occasion. Memorial Day is a time to remember and pay tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Their selflessness and courage have ensured our freedom and security, and it's imperative that we never forget their sacrifice. So as we enjoy this day with loved ones, let's take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices of those who have given their lives in service to our nation.

We are both honored and grateful as the Georgia Latino Film Alliance (GALFA) announces that RE:IMAGINE and its esteemed board, along with our exceptional Executive Director Julie Foster, have recognized our efforts and contributions with the Pioneer award. This recognition not only celebrates our 13 years at GALFA but also underscores our collective dedication to nurturing and promoting the Latino filmmaking community.

As we approach DREAMFEST 2024, we are reminded of the profound potential and passion that thrive within our industry. Set for Wednesday, May 22nd, at 6:30 PM at New Realm Brewing Rooftop, this event is a celebration of 13 years of impactful storytelling and community engagement. We at believe we must own our heritage and embrace it as a great opportunity to communicate and celebrate how the Latino community is driving prosperity, progress, creativity and power in the United States.

Now is the time, that we must be more focused, more determined, more organized and unified. Because as a community, despite our contributions to the film industry, despite the tangible momentum and the palpable progress, we are still underrepresented, misrepresented and undervalued. We are still fighting to break down systemic barriers.

It is time for the Latino community embrace our pride, own our narrative and embark on the next chapter of our progress. In the end, Hispanic progress is American progress and we will succeed.

BUILD SKILLS IN FILMMAKING AND CONTENT CREATION

In GALFA’s Youth Summer Filmmaking Camp, students aged 14-17 build skills in filmmaking and content creation through hands-on experience. Throughout the course of the film camp our teachers are professional filmmakers and directors teach filmmaking for teens, training aspiring storytellers to write, shoot, direct, edit and screen their project, their own original content at the Georgia Latino International Film Festival.

Our level-one classes cover the fundamentals of filmmaking.
