The North Attleboro Police Department extends heartfelt condolences to the officers and family members of the Seekonk Police Department as they mourn the tragic loss of Patrolwoman Kourtney DeForitis in an off-duty motorcycle crash.
It is with the deepest and most profound sadness that Chief David Enos announces the untimely passing of Patrolwoman Kourtny DeForitis. During the early morning hours of September 9, 2023, Ptlw. DeForitis was involved in an off-duty fatal motor vehicle crash, as a passenger on a motorcycle in Somerset, MA. Ptlw. DeForitis served with the Seekonk Police Department for just under 3 years, having attended the Cape Cod Municipal Police Academy in 2021. Since that time, she has been assigned to the Patrol Division and was outstanding in her various roles as a community outreach officer. Kourtny had a particular fondness for the youth of Seekonk and could be found playfully interacting with them in the schools and at community events, usually with a bright smile on her face and a contagious laugh. The men and women of the Seekonk Police Department offer their sincere condolences to Ptlw. DeForitis’ family and friends, as we also mourn the loss of one of our own. Rest in peace badge 3334, we’ll take the watch from here.

Sergeant Michael C. Chesna #117
Weymouth Police Department
End of Watch: July 15, 2018
On this day we remember Sergeant Micheal C. Chesna, a 6 year veteran of the Weymouth Police Department who was shot and killed after responding to reports of an erratic operator near South Shore Hospital. Upon arrival, he observed the vehicle had crashed and the driver was vandalizing a home nearby. Sergeant Chesna was struck in the head with a large rock, disarmed and fatally shot by the suspect, who also fatally shot Vera Adams in her home. The suspect was subsequently arrested by responding officers and taken into custody. The suspect has since been charged with two counts of homicide. Sergeant Chesna was 42 years old.
Sergeant Chesna was a U.S. Army Veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife and two children. Sergeant Michael C. Chesna five years have passed, you are not forgotten.
It’s time and we wanted to get ahead of the curve given the recent rash of motor vehicle break-ins in the southern end of town. So here’s a clever image designed to grab attention and create social media reactions with the ultimate purpose of reminding you to LOCK YOUR VEHICLES this evening!
Other things you can do:
- make sure your exterior lights are on and functioning
- invest in a doorbell or other camera system, brand choice is yours.
- DO NOT leave valuables in your vehicles.
- See someone (or someones) acting sus in your hood? Call us. We don’t mind. Seriously. Call us. Please.
- Catch someone on your cameras acting sus when you wake up? Call us at 508-695-1212 and we will come grab that footage.
UPDATE: Our phones are back up to 100% capacity.
PHONE ADVISORY:
For a brief period the number of incoming phone lines will be reduced which may lead to non-emergency lines sending a busy signal. 911 is not affected by this work.
WELCOME ABOARD AND CONGRATULATIONS!

As a reminder, May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. With warmer weather, it’s time to remind everyone to be on the alert and to share the road with motorcyclists.
Riders who have been cooped up all winter are excited to be out on the road again, but that shouldn’t stop them from using caution.
Both motorcyclists and motorists need to be aware of their surroundings. Checking blind spots, and mirrors and using turn signals are necessary when changing lanes and when passing.
Be alert to riders on the road. Take your time, signal, and check your mirrors.
Leave enough distance between your vehicle and the rider in front of you.
Riders, wear protective gear, obey traffic laws, and maintain your ride.
Take a motorcycle safety course.
Enjoy the ride! For more information visit www.nhtsa.gov/safety/motorcycles.
