Food Waste Collection and Composting | North Attleborough, MA 06/17/2024

Help fight food waste! Join the town's new food waste composting initiative and get a free kitchen scrap toter while supplies last!

The first 150 residents who fill out our online form will receive a free kitchen scrap toter and liner. Once registered, the first 150 residents to sign up will then be contacted to schedule a date and time for them to retrieve their toters and liners from the Recycling Center.

Food Waste Collection and Composting | North Attleborough, MA The Town of North Attleborough Solid Waste Department has partnered with Black Earth Compost to offer food waste composting. Roughly 30% of household trash is food waste. By composting food waste, households will save valuable resources from the trash and money.

Saturday was a huge success! We were honored to have Town Council Members John Simmons and John Costello attend, as well as our special guest speakers, Town Manager Mike Borg, Rep Adam Scanlon, and Chair of the Library Board of Trustees Lyle Pirnie. Exciting News! The Richards Memorial Library has THREE new museum passes thanks to the RML Friends of the Library! The new passes are the Boston Children’s Museum pass, the MA DCR State Parks Parking pass, and the Blithewold Mansion & Gardens pass.

These passes are in addition to the library’s other passes: Capron Parks Zoo, Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Science, and the New England Aquarium. Most passes are discounts off regular admission but please go https://www.rmlonline.org/museum-passes for more information and to reserve your pass with your library card!

The Town has received notification that the Kings Grant water service has been restored. Residents are advised to run their water for 5-10 minutes to remove any air in their pipes. Please note that your water may be slightly cloudy due to air in the pipes.

Residents are also advised of the ongoing Boil Water advisory for Kings Grant customers. Residents are urged to boil water before drinking it or using it to cook. The Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until MassDEP lifts it.

Beach Time! With warm weather and summer break fast approaching, the North Attleborough Parks and Recreation Department would like to remind community members to follow its rules and regulations while enjoying their time at our beaches.

Please note that our beaches are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Passes are required to visit our beaches. They are $25 for the season ($5 for military and senior citizens) and can be purchased online at www.narecreation.com under Programs or in person at Mason Fieldhouse.

Motorized boats are not allowed at Whiting's Beach. However, boats are allowed at Barabra Road Beach. Jet skis are not allowed at either beach.

Residents affected by the Kings Grant water system shutdown are invited to use the bathrooms and showers at the Hockomock YMCA, 300 Elmwood Street, until service is restored. Residents are asked to visit the member service desk and inform staff that they're there due to the water outage. Once informed, staff will then grant residents access to the bathrooms. The Town would like to thank Hockomock YMCA team for supporting our community and allowing us to use their facility during this time.

Residents may also get drinking and cooking water from DPW's water kiosk at 49 Whiting St.

At this time, the Town is still unaware of when service will be restored. This is a privately owned company; therefore, the town does not have any involvement in the ongoing issues. Residents are encouraged to contact MassDEP District 5 with any questions or concerns.

While Kings Grant is not part of the Town’s water system, DPW has a water kiosk at 49 Whiting Street available to residents in need.

The Roosevelt School hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier today to honor its newly built playground. Special thanks to everyone who supported this project!

Thanks to everyone's hard work and advocacy, some of our youngest learners have a new, state-of-the-art playground to enjoy for years to come!

This week, work is being done outside the library's main entrance. One side of the walkway has been blocked off, but signs are out to assist patrons entering the building. Later this week, the other side of the entrance will be blocked off, so please be on the lookout for signs directing you into the building.

Community members are advised that Whitings and Falls Ponds will be chemically treated for algae on Thursday, June 13, and should avoid swimming, boating, or fishing in the ponds until Friday, June 14.

Please note that this herbicide treatment is being conducted pursuant to a permit issued by MA-DEP.

The Richards Memorial Library's summer reading program begins Monday, June 10. This year's theme is Read, Renew, Repeat. The program encourages children to read or listen to reading throughout the summer to prevent the "summer slide."

Children ages 3 to those entering 9th grade can register in person between June 10 and July 31. Reading incentives, based on age, include brag tag necklaces, candy bars, a free book, and raffle entries for exciting prizes such as passes to Showcase Cinemas, Altitude, and Treetop Adventures!
