with less than required players are not allowed to take players from other teams. Only after forfeiting the game, they are allowed to play a pick up game with players from different teams.
• There must be 8 players on the court for each team. 7 field players and 1 goalie. The maximum number of players allowed on the team is 14.
• Varsity players or students that do not have UMASSD passes are strictly not allowed to play
• Games will run for 50 min games (25 min halves) with a two-minute water break at the half point. There is no overtime or penalty shootouts in the event of a tie during the regular season. Penalty kicks will be used to break ties only during playoff tournament.
• Crisis Rule (Mercy Rule): In the event of a 10 goal difference the game will be called. This is to prevent another 20-0 slaughter.
• REFEREES: Games will be monitored and regulated by directors and referees. We will call time, fouls, and any other doubtful plays. We will exercise our discretion when awarding cards as a result of game infractions. GAME RULES

• COIN TOSS: Winner of the coin toss will have possession of the ball to start the half. Loser of the coin toss will have possession for the start of the second half.
• KICKOFF: (start of halves and after goal scored) will be taken from the center mark, upon sound of the whistle. A kickoff can only occur if all players are on their respective side of the court. The ball must be passed or tapped to begin. Players are not allowed to take a direct shot with the first start.
• Defending players must be 6 yards away from the ball upon kick-off.
• GOAL CELEBRATION: A team is at liberty to celebrate a goal to the extent they wish but as soon as all players have returned to their corresponding sides the game may be restarted by the team who was just scored on. No offensive celebrations will be tolerated.
• Goalkeeper
• BALL DISTRIBUTION: Goalies may never use their hands to handle a ball that was directly distributed to them by a player in their own team. Goalies may only distribute a ball with their hand if they catch it from an opposing player. Balls kicked out of bounds in the goalie's direction (shots) may only be put in play through a goal kick, not a punt or a throw.
• BALL DISTRIBUTION (CONT’D): After obtaining possession of the ball the goalkeeper has 6 seconds to distribute ball from inside goalkeeper's box.
• INTERFERENCE: Opposing players must be outside the goalie's box in order for a goalkeeper distribution to take place.
• BOX: The goalkeeper's box consists of the yellow lines that are located in front of the goalkeeper's net. The goalkeeper must remain inside said box when having hand possession of the ball.
• SUBSTITUTION: Goalkeeper substitution must be announced to the referee and can only take place during a game stoppage.
• PENALTY KICKS: Goalkeeper must keep heels on the goal line until whistle is blown.
• Game Regulations:
• WALL PLAYING: Players may use the wall to play the ball. Bleachers do not count as walls.
• OFFSIDE: Rule does not apply to indoor soccer.
• SLIDE TACKLES- Slide tackling is not allowed in any situation, offense or defense if you're a position player. Goal keeper slides will be ruled according to our judgment.
• HAND BALL: A hand ball will only be called if a player intentionally uses his hands to block the trajectory of the ball, ball contact with hands above the waist line will be considered a hand ball as well.
• SUBSTITUTION: A player(s) may be subbed in on the fly at any point during the game as long as it doesn’t interfere with, or interrupt, game play. Substitutions may not occur on a fast break. The player should be completely off the line before the new player steps in.
• DROP BALLS: The referee will call for a drop ball in the event of player injury and outside interference.
• ADVANTAGE RULE: We will allow play to continue, notwithstanding the commission of an offense, when the team against which it has been committed will benefit from an existing offensive advantage.
• CORNER KICKS: Occur when the ball is kicked behind own goal line. Corner kick must take place from white "X" marked on the court surface. A corner kick can also occur if the goalkeeper steps behind the goalie line with the ball.
• Penalty & Free Kicks (Direct and Indirect)
• PENALTY KICK: A penalty kick will take place if a foul is committed inside the smaller box inside the goalkeeper box.
• PENALTY KICK (CONT'D): a penalty kick will take place 20 feet from the goalie line and will be initiated upon whistle.
• PK REBOUNDS: If the ball is deflected by the goalkeeper any player is allowed to take a rebound shot. Penalty kicks during tiebreakers (playoffs) do not support this rebound rule.
• INDIRECT FREE KICKS: If the ball touches the basketball hoops, the curtains or any other object above the court, a free indirect kick will be awarded to the opposing team at the spot where the ball hit the object. An indirect kick will be awarded for technical offenses. A goal cannot be scored directly.
• DIRECT FREE KICKS: Will be awarded for fouls and can result in a direct goal.
• FREE KICKS - WALL PLACEMENT: Wall placement must take place at distance of 6 yards from where the ball is placed. TRANSFER WINDOW

• Players are only permitted to play for the team they are registered for.
• The transfer window will begin from the first day of the season until the third game of the season (13th October 2013)
• By the above stated day at midnight, captains must submit the finalized roster, and that roster will be the final teams.
• The transfer window will reopen once the winter break commences, and will end on the third game of the season when it restarts in January (date to be confirmed)

JUDICIAL RULES

• Referees always have the final say, failure to comply will result in first warning a yellow card, and a second warning red card (tossed out of the game).
• Any excessive or offensive celebration will result in a yellow card based on the discretion of the referee.
• If the goalie picks the ball up from a pass from his own player, it will result in a yellow card.
• Goal keepers have 6 seconds do get rid of the ball. If the goalie breaks this rule excessively it will result in a yellow card.
• During substitutions the player being subbed needs to be completely of the court until the next player comes in. A foul will be given to the opposite team for too many players on the pitch if the rule above is violated.
• Slidetackles will not be tolerated under any circumstances, failure to comply will result in a yellow card or a red card depending on the severity of the tackle.
• A deliberate hand ball will result in a direct yellow card or red card depending on the severity of the issue.
• If the goal keeper handles the ball with his hands outside the box will result in a red card.
• Players found playing for other teams when its a not a pick up game, will be suspended for 3 games automatically. Any subsequent offenses will result in being kickout of the league completely.
• Substitutes must behave in an orderly manner, referees have the discretion to book the substitutes based on the severity of their behavior.
• Players on the field must respect the referees final decision with no level of arguing tolerated. Failure to agree to this rule will result in a yellow or even yellow cards.
• Players cannot provoke the opposite team or referee with vulgarities or insults at any point before, during and after the game, within the Intramural premises.

CONSEQUENCES FOR EACH CARD

• Failure to bring a umass pass will result in a suspension after 2 warnings.
• After the accumulation of 3 yellow cards in the league, it will result in a one game suspension.
• After a red card, the player must leave the pitch and the team will not be allowed afford a substitute (team plays a man down). They also will be suspended for the next game and could also be suspended on the severity of the offense. (According to the discretion of the intramural directors)
• Failure to leave the pitch DPS will be called. The intramural Directors reserve the right to alter the rules at any point during the season. The intramural Department coordinator (Mr. Gerald Jennings) will be notified and we will implement new rules only with his approval.
