This program is designed to increase participants' ability to recognize and avoid potentially dangerous situations, violence, and harm. Students who participated were provided with information, tools, and skills to better protect themselves when in danger. We are so proud of the hard work, strength, and confidence of our participants!

Earlier this week Officer Douglas and his friends Parker (Umass PD), Artie (Montague PD) and Aggie (Amherst PD *Not pictured) assisted Western Mass EMS in training local fire Departments in Nero's Law.
Nero's Law is a bill that was passed a few years ago that allows EMS to treat and transport K9's in an emergency situation.
This past weekend members of NPD participated in the annual open house at Northampton Fire Station. Thanks for hosting us Northampton Fire Rescue!
There will be a drug take back next Saturday at Smith Vocational & Agricultural High School. Mark your calendars!
The City is hosting a warm winter clothing drive until October 26th. We are looking to collect and distribute warm clothing items such as coats, sweaters, scarves, gloves and personal care items to individuals and families who are in need. This helps to ensure that vulnerable people, including the homeless and those with limited resources, can stay warm and safe during the colder months.
Collection boxes are at City Hall, NPD, NFD, Forbes Library and 1 Roundhouse Plaza. The DCC Community Responders will be collecting and sorting the donations.
If you see that a donation box is full, please contact [email protected].
The Northampton Police Department is proud to join the Pink Patch Project, a collaborative effort between public safety agencies nationwide to raise funds to further the research, treatment, and care of those who are battling or have battled breast cancer.
Agencies participating in the program create vibrant pink versions of the agency’s uniform patch as part of larger fundraising and public awareness campaigns. Northampton Police officers will have the option of displaying our pink patch as part of a special uniform to be worn throughout the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Throughout the month of October, NPD will be selling a limited supply of our pink patches for $10 each. Patches can be purchased in person from our Records Bureau during their window hours (Tuesdays from 8am –12pm and Thursdays from 12-4pm).
If you are interested in purchasing a patch but do not live in the area, please contact Sgt. Sullivan-Chin at [email protected].
All proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated to Cancer Connection, Inc., a local organization serving individuals and families dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
Today Officer Douglas and Officer Wallace attended a planning session of the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run liaisons. LETR is a way that fundraising is done to support the athletes and put on the games across the state. If you see a LETR event think about making a donation to support Special Olympics of Massachusetts.
Thank you to Texas Roadhouse for inviting us and Hadley Police Department to their annual public safety night, where we happily got to meet and greet many members of the community. Also pictured is Officer Douglas wishfully eyeing some of their delicious hand-cut steaks!
Today Fire Rescue and Northampton Police Department honored those who lost their lives on 9/11.
On that fateful day, 2,977 victims lost their lives in the attack on our nation. 343 Firefighters/paramedics & 60 Police Officers paid the ultimate sacrifice. Every year this ceremony honors all the lives lost.
This past Saturday, Officers Rattelsdorfer and Hampson participated in the 11th annual Ride to Remember, completing a 70-mile loop through several Western Massachusetts communities! Throwback Thursday! With the return to school today, we're throwing it back to 2017 with this gem of a PSA!
Stop for the Bus PSA Keep our kids safe by stopping when a school bus' red lights are flashing.
As we welcome students back to school Thursday, August 31st, please be extra cautious in your daily commutes for students loading onto and off of school buses and school vans.
We will be out ensuring vehicles stop for school buses and vans that are stopped with flashing red lights activated, as required by state law. As a reminder, no vehicle may proceed until flashing lights are deactivated. Vehicles must also stay back at least 100 feet behind any marked school bus at all times.
And as always, please slow down and be extra cautious for the crossing guards and students using crosswalks near the school zones. There is a 20 MPH speed limit in these school zones during school hours.
Your attention to active red bus signals and stop signs, your speed, crosswalks, and your surroundings is paramount in helping keep students in our community safe.
