The Extended Day 4-year-old Lions Class welcomed caterpillars into our classroom this week. We will be watching them transform into butterflies over the next few weeks before we release them as a class! 🐛🦋☀️

Our Friendly Frogs 3s class loved learning about spiders! They read some fun spidery stories, painted spider webs with fly swatters, made handprint spiders, and explored the Itsy Bitsy Spider song with a sensory bin filled with water, rain spouts, and lots of spiders. 🕷

It’s Friday morning which means our volunteers that we affectionately refer to as our “Friday Ladies” are here helping with our prep work for our classroom teachers. They are the epitome of many hands make light work. They do everything from cutting and assembling, to die cutting. They are truly a blessing to our school and we wanted to take an opportunity to celebrate them.

So thankful for Galvin Growth Group who came to talk with parents about anxiety in preschool & elementary children. A way that Ward Church & Ward Preschool can partner & encourage the value of Healthy Families.

Will you have a child that will be one or two years old by September 1st? Registration for our Adult/Child classes for fall is on Tuesday, April 23rd for currently enrolled, alumni and Ward Church members and Wednesday, April 24th for all new families. Join and on Wednesday, April 10, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. as we discuss anxiety + preschool/elementary.

This class is designed to teach parents the basics of anxiety: where it comes from, what’s normal, and what’s concerning.

Presenters will include information on how anxiety is treated and what parents can do at home to foster a healthy relationship with anxiety. Presenters are from Galvin Growth Group, a psychotherapy practice in Novi, MI, and they will be offering a lecture and discussion for parents of children in preschool and elementary.

The Preschool + Elementary session will include specific information on typical anxieties at this age, what’s developmentally appropriate, and how to provide early intervention when anxiety is a concern.

🌼 Flower Power!🌺 The Friendly Frogs 3s class have been learning the parts of a flower, practiced drawing their own flower garden, and built flowers using gears. We love to see our Frogs engage in learning through STEAM activities!🌷

March in Young 5s was full of learning through play with a lot of shape review through art and STEM! Geoboards and the gluing of our self portraits are also great activities to develop fine motor skills— one of the prerequisites for neat writing!

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day we read “How to Catch a Leprechaun” as a class. We then challenged our 4-year-old Lions class to use a variety of items to build a Leprechaun trap. They worked cooperatively as a team to build one awesome GIANT Leprechaun trap! ☘️

It’s food month in our threes program! Here our Playful Pandas are experiencing a variety of food themed sensory table activities that will continue throughout the month. Sensory tables help develop fine motor, cognitive and language skills. They also encourage social and emotional development with good conversation and cooperation!

Our three-year-olds discovered that the tastiest way to work on strengthening our hands and working on fine motor skills is by taking a field trip and decorating cakes at the Livonia Italian Bakery and Cafe!

Our 4 year old Team Turtles class learned about germos and taking care of our healthy bodies.

Our 4 year old Hippos class loves finger painting! We are engaging multiple senses, improving fine motor skills by strengthening the small muscles in our hands, and building language. This is a power packed, fun way to PLAY!!

Tuesday was a Professional Development day for our preschool staff and we wanted to share what we learned on our day outside of the classroom.

We talked about social emotional development and learned a new song called “The Boundaries Song” from .

We also learned more about emotional intelligence from Alyssa Black Campbell who wrote Tiny Humans, Big Emotions: How to Navigate Tantrums, Meltdowns, and Defiance to Raise Emotionally Intelligent Children.

We can’t wait to implement these tools inside our classrooms to impact all of our preschoolers.

We thought that we would share a post and a little from the “olden days” for all those that may be nervous about registration this week.

Way back as early as 2020 parents had to wait in line outside in February, battle the weather and some got there as early as 3:00 AM. We had never found an online solution that fit our needs, then COVID hit and we knew that we needed to find something. By April of 2020 we converted to a new system (Enrollsy), September of 2020 we started the new school year successfully (with many new practices to work through) and by February of 2021 we had our very first online registration in the history of Ward Preschool.

Thanks to all of our staff that have made this long line not so ancient history! We are anticipating a very smooth process this week and wish you all the best and that you get your desired programs. For those hoping to join us as new families at Open Registration, please feel free to contact us on Tuesday afternoon before 3:00 to find out if your desired program has openings.

Our Winter Toddler and Two Fun Session registration is now open for all families and we still have space available in both programs! Classes start the week January 29th.

Introducing our 2023-2024 Ward Preschool Team!

Today we all met as a group for professional development. We also prayed for our students and families, put finishing touches on classrooms and made sure that everything will be just right to welcome you and your children to our Ward Preschool family for the school year.

We are Ward Preschool and we love what we do!

Yesterday we wrapped up our 3s Adventure Camp and today we wrapped up our 4s Handwriting Camp, which means it’s officially summer at Ward Preschool!!!

It’s always so great to see alumni in our halls, and today this Ward Preschool family brought back their older alumni child, their middle child is moving on to Kindergarten in the fall and their youngest will be with us for one more year. What a treat to see them all together!
