Within the next week, she’ll have seen almost 30 patients at our clinic 😱 despite the time crunch, she brings her bubbly spirit, warm energy, and astrology-knowledge to each and every interaction with her patients. If you’ve met or worked with Kholood, you know exactly what I’m talking about 🩵

Ten years ago this month something happened to me which changed my life forever 😮

I’d been out of acupuncture school for less than a year. As you may know I started my practice in a town I knew hardly anyone 😅 I’m sure you can imagine how empty my practice was in the beginning 🫣 I remember crying on the phone with my student loan provider because I’d called too late to cancel a payment and that was going to be my grocery money for the month 🥲

That’s when I got a job in downtown Chicago working for a small medical malpractice firm. I had been a lawyer in a previous life in case you didn’t know ⚖️

I’d treat patients at 7, 8 am and take the train into my law job and work 6-7 hours each day (and it was billable hour too 😝) Then come back to Oak Park to treat patients until 8 pm. I was so tired I remember falling asleep on the train 😴 But I just kept going, determined to build a practice. And slowly I did.

And in July 2014, I put in my notice and worked my last day for someone else 🤗 And never looked back. My husband Nick (also an acupuncturist) joined that same year and together we grew our practice into 6 practitioners and 2 administrative assistants. And we’ve helped over ten thousand clients 🥂

Running a small business isn’t easy as you can imagine 😱But I’m content not working for anyone else. Even on its worst days, I remember to keep going forward and keep showing up. And the rewards will come 🏆

CUCUMBER SALAD RECIPE 💚
Makes 3-4 servings
1-2 Cucumbers, sliced thinly
1/2-1 c Red onion, chopped
Water and vinegar in equal parts, to taste
1 T Fresh dill optional
Dextrose or sugar to taste

Add cucumber and onion to medium-sized bowl. Add water and vinegar to taste. Lightly toss ingredients. Top with fresh dill. Add sugar to taste. Enjoy at room temperature.

1 bag of dry lentils
4 cups of broth, vegetable or chicken
2-3 garlic cloves, minced or 1 onion white or yellow, diced
1 T tomato paste or 1 small tomato, peeled and diced
1 Bay leaf
Salt and pepper to taste
1 T Oregano

Place all ingredients in a big pot. Stir. Heat on stove high heat until it boils. Add extra water if needed as you’re cooking. Cover and simmer for 1-1.5 hours until lentils and garlic/onion are soft. Remove Bay leaf. Enjoy warm! 👉If you are a fan of vinegar, you can add a splash of it in your bowl.
