Oakdale Soroptimist
"A global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment."
Oakdale Soroptimist had so much fun sponsoring the Kids Corner at Oakdale Morning Market! Thank you to Oakdale’s Distinguished Young Woman Madison for bringing the awesome craft projects for the children! They absolutely loved them and had so much fun! 🤗
🎉 Please join us in celebrating our club’s 70th anniversary! 🎉
70 years ago today Soroptimist International of Oakdale was chartered and we could not be more proud of all the things SIO has accomplished since then. Thank you to our community for always supporting us and we can’t wait to see how much more our club can grow in the future.
Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
Thank you so much to the Oakdale Morning Market for having us as your featured non-profit of the week! If you haven’t had the chance to check out this beautiful market every Saturday through September 8-11am you need to!
Come see us this Saturday 🤩
Yesterday at our 70th Club Anniversary celebration we installed our incoming club President, Susan Merchant and Board of Directors for our 2024-2025 club year!! More to come on that celebration soon🥳🎉...
We were honored to have in attendance representatives from the Modesto Gospel Mission who were awarded a $25,000 check on behalf of Soroptimist International of Oakdale for their Hannah House shelter project!
This amazing project will not just provide a safe haven for women and children in Stanislus County but will also help change lives through outreach programs aimed at fostering independence and self-sufficiency for the growing number of women and children facing homelessness in our communities.
The Soroptimist Mission is to provide women and girls with access to the education and training that they need to achieve economic empowerment and this donation will help us serve so many women and children for years to come!
If you want to support our organization or join us, please message our club directly at www.sioakdale.org or any Soroptimist member! You can also send a message on this page👍.
This Saturday, 5/25, come out and see us at the Oakdale Morning Market organized by Love Oakdale!

Celebrating national women’s day with some of our Soroptimist members while sippin on some coffee, bagels and muffins at Seed 2 Cup Coffee ☕️
The name Soroptimist was coined from the Latin ‘soror’ meaning sister and ‘optima’ meaning best. Creating the meaning behind soroptimist to be ‘best for women’. Today we celebrate national women’s day showing our praise and thankfulness for all the women that we have had encounters with in the past and currently.
Being a member of Soroptimist not only means celebrating and supporting our community but just celebrating women in general.
Today we ask you to comment and or tag a woman or women in your life that has inspired you, raised you, or just someone you are thankful for 💙
Thats a wrap for DYW 2024 for the class of 2025!
All the hard work, practice and repetition has finally paid off for these eight inspiring women. This years DYW class of 2025 include; Kimberly Espinoza Belmonte, Jordan Birchall, Memphislynn Carr, Montserrat Garcia, Maddie Hammond, Madison Mattos, Leah Sales and Emma Weber.
During their competition they were judged on academics, public speaking, fitness and talent. We, Soroptimist of Oakdale are beyond impressed and proud of each of these girls for not only taking the step to do this program but for working so hard and leaving with forever memories and friendships.
The pictures include the ‘has beens’ revealing who their ‘little sisters’ are, lots of pep talks from member Nancy Lily, visits from Mayor Cherilyn Bairos, behind the scenes preparations and lastly the awards ceremony. The girls were awarded with the individual scholarships first then the top five winners were presented their scholarships by last years top five winners. Our top five placed winners include 5th place, Maddy Hammond, 4th place, Jordan Birchall, 3rd place, Leah Sales, 2nd place, Emma Weber, and first place…our DYW class of 2025 representative is Madison Mattos! Congratulations Madison!

What is DYW?

DYW (distinguished young women) is a performance made up of junior year high school girls who have the opportunity to perform in a showcase for scholarships towards their college of choice. They rehearse for awhile learning an opening dance number, a fitness routine, a personal talent performance, prior academic performance grading and lastly their spoken word presentations. Prior to the performance the participants get graded on their academics which is added into their final score. Then throughout the night they are watched by judges who will score them on the rest of the evening. This event is more than just dancing. It is about creating new relationships and new bonding opportunities with the other participants. Most of these girls aren’t close friends with each other until they all meet in DYW. At the end of the final day, they are leaving with all brand new strong friendships.

The participant awarded first place and the face of dyw for the following year will go onto represent Oakdale and complete at state level. The winner of state goes onto represent California and compete at national level. Each level giving them more and more scholarship opportunities. Does only one girl get scholarships? No! There are awards/scholarships for each category giving each girl the opportunity to win a scholarship.

This event is put on by Soroptimist International of Oakdale and what used to be called junior miss is now DYW. What is also amazing about this event is that last years participants (the has-beens) get to help the current year girls with choreography, tips and tricks to the event as well as join them during a performance or two. The has-beens also get to hand out the awards at the end to each winner, sort of passing on the baton to the next era of DYW.

These girls has worked so hard and we cannot wait to have the community, friends and family of the participants come tomorrow evening to watch all their hard work pay off. This is more than just a showcase, it’s a bonding experience and a life changing opportunity to junior year girls to prepare for their future and create lasting friendships along the way. We hope that the community can come out to support these girls tomorrow February 24th at 7pm, doors open at 6:30pm.
Good luck girls!!
