Congratulations to our friends for being recognized by as the best community focused coffee shop in the bay. Right before we opened in 2021, our coffee roaster moved from the Bay Area which left me without a supplier. I came across Grand Coffee and immediately felt that this was the right fit for us. Nabeel, Adrian, and Kim represent the sprit of the bay and roast our coffee every Tuesday here in Oakland with love and attention. Also, their new shop in the Mission is beautiful, check it out next time you’re out there! 💫

An evening of solidarity with the women's uprising in Iran and a conversation about the protests with Persis Karim, Director of the Center for Iranian Diaspora Studies and professor of Comparative & World Literature at San Francisco State University.

Iranian food by pop up: Sheila is an Iranian American chef born and raised in diaspora. She will be serving coutlet( Iranian beef and potato patty) sandwiches and sholeh zard (vegan saffron and rose rice pudding.

A spoken word performance and discussion of Arab and Muslim American experiences in Oakland during the pandemic, with Yemeni coffee and tea by

A conversation about storytelling, struggle, and resilience, featuring:

Nadia Elbgal, a 2022 Oakland Youth Poet Laureate and a graduate from Berkeley High School. She has mentored Yemeni students in OUSD elementary schools and is an activist working with Middle Eastern and Muslim communities. Nadia is a songwriter who uses poetry daily and feels it has always made her feel empowered and hopeful.

Sunaina Maira, a Professor of Asian American Studies at UC Davis whose work focuses on Arab and Muslim American studies. She has been doing a community-engaged research and digital storytelling project with Yemeni Americans, focusing on the impact of the Muslim Bans and the war in Yemen on immigrant businesses on the frontlines of the pandemic.

Neighbors of Bella Vista! It’s very short notice but we have decided to host a small potluck in the garden to celebrate the lunar new year. Mama Tae will prepare a few dishes to share but feel free to bring something if you have time! 5:30 on… 🐅
