What does therapy mean to you? Have you ever taken time to think about that question? Therapy helps people understand that they can do something to improve their situation. That leads to changes that enhance healthy behavior, whether it's improving relationships, expressing emotions better, doing better at work or school, or thinking more positively.
You may mistakenly believe that your condition is a sign of personal weakness or that you should be able to control it without help. Seeking counseling, educating yourself about your condition and connecting with others who have mental illness can help you gain self-esteem and overcome destructive self-judgment.

Marie has experience working with diverse clients in various mental health settings, including schools and community mental health agencies, with a focus on providing culturally sensitive services through a social justice lens. She also provides bilingual counseling in Tagalog and English.
LaDarien is accepting new clients. LaDarien deeply values self-care and autonomy, and seeks to help his clients find their inner strength. Your past experiences, whether they be successes or failures, do not define who you are, and he is eager to help you become the best version of yourself. Since many of our thoughts are subconscious, positive affirmations allow us to become more aware of our thought patterns and feelings. This reduces the risk of allowing negative thought patterns to take form.
There are several misconceptions about therapy. This means that we are all imperfect, and could benefit from treatment. It’s commonly believed that individuals who seek therapy MUST be struggling with deep, dark emotional or behavioral problems. In reality, people see therapists for many reasons beyond serious mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, grief, relationship problems, or even a simple desire to improve themselves as a person.

Affirmations are positive statements that can help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. When you repeat them often, and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes.

I woke up at 5am this morning, the new normal for the past few weeks. My body ached and felt an extra heaviness. The familiar feeling of little critters in my stomach rising. And then the racing thoughts zipping on by from one corner of my brain to the other.
The compounding effects of days, weeks, months and years.
Emotional exhaustion plays out in the body. So if you’re feeling it, you’re not alone. Don’t ignore it. AND if it feels more than that, don’t delay getting help. Check-in with your primary health care provider.
Gentle reminder that we’re able to stay informed, help our world community in whichever way we can AND help ourselves by taking media breaks, connecting with loved ones, resting, moving our bodies and soothing (a huge reminder of our privileged position.)

Research shows there are several ways to improve the health of your brain and learning something new is one of them. ‘Mental sweat’ helps your brain build new cells and strengthen connections between the cells. When you learn something new you are exercising your brain, which can help improve cognitive functions such as concentration, attention to detail, memory recall and problem solving, and also reduce the chance of developing dementia.
