I’m overdue to put out another request for the Sept.21st Ocala Parrothead Club Birthday party with Jeff Randall $ his Jimmy Buffett tribute show. The Board is again planning Cork pull( we call it Duck,duck, Booze!) and we need donations of unopened, liquor bottles of 15$ value or greater for the event. We will sell our ducks and ALL proceeds of the birthday party (after expenses) go to SOZO Kids so underprivileged children in the Ocala National Forest have decent meals, clothes and after school programs. If you have liquor that you know you will never use, bring it to the Phlocking on Wednesday and get this party started!🦜🎂🍹🎁🥃🦜

We have our monthly Phlocking coming up July 10th Wednesday, music starts at 6 PM at the Charlie horse bar and Grill. Dave & Vicky will be providing lots of entertainment and we will be having a 50-50 raffle to benefit this quarters charitable donation recipient, FIDO Project, Florida Inmates & Dog Obedience. This Marion County program teaches incarcerated people work/ life skills and trains stray dogs for future adoption. So all you need to bring is a couple bucks for a beverage and the raffle, plus you’re dancing shoes and get ready to have some fun with local parrot heads! You don’t need to be a member to attend, and anyone can join at the meeting to!🦜🎉🎶🦈🧂🍹🦜

Our Walk to End Alzheimer’s Team Captain, Marie Kalb and I want to invite all interested members to join us on this annual event. Nationally, Parrothead clubs throughout the United States, participate all over the country to raise money to help eradicate this horrible disease that touches almost everyone at some point in their life. Several of our club members have mothers, fathers and yes, even children with this debilitating malady. We will meet at Citizen Circle Downtown on September 28th at 8 am for a ceremony and then the short walk. Not only is it such a morale booster to have treats from home, the encouraging notes and cut-out stars is a reminder of the unwavering support that Americans have for their troops serving overseas. Your support is very much appreciated and makes our sacrifice more bearable.

December 29th, Ocala Parrothead Club will co- sponsor a blood drive with LifeSouth at the Ocala Mall (the old Kmart Bldg.) at the corner of 36th Ave and SR 40. No details yet… but more info on time and volunteering opportunities soon!🦜 💕🩸 🦜

I want to thank all the clubs that scheduled a blood drive in support of our initial PHiP One Phamily Blood Drive (There’s still time if your club has not).

I completely understand the frustration that some of you have expressed in getting folks to participate.

The truth is almost 96 out of 100 people from the general population won’t donate.

My 22 years of MOTM blood drive history tells me 92 out of 100 members of our Phlock won’t donate.

I completely understand that there are folks unable to donate due to medical reasons or other blood donation rules.
Here’s a question for the rest of you… If the person you love the most needed a blood donation, would you step up and donate to save your loved one’s life or would you let them die? Sorry to
put it that way but it is the cold hard truth. Since you can only donate once every 8 weeks, what if your loved one needed multiple transfusions and no one else stepped up to donate? There is
no substitute for blood. So either someone volunteers and donates or someone does without.

Blood donations are the ultimate random act of kindness, you are giving the gift of life! With the expectation of there being 2,000,000 NEW cancer diagnoses in 2023 the need for blood donations never stops. Hopefully no one you know was one of the 2,000,000 but what if someone you know is part of that 2,000,000 or was already fighting the rat bastard cancer.

I wonder what the estimate for 2024 will be?

Everything we’ve ever done, was done a first time. Sometimes that first time is easy, sometimes it’s difficult, but you stepped up, faced your fears and did it.

December is a really tough time for the blood banks around the country, we can help! Here’s the way I see it, the real gift Jimmy gave me was not his music. Instead it was the gift of the many friends I’ve met and come to love as family over the last 30+ years.

I will be donating just in case any of them might need my help.
A few minutes of your time, a lifetime for someone else.
And it doesn’t cost anything!
