Rivera is even more playful than a puppy when... well... he's around puppies! We love catching these moments. ๐Ÿฅฐ While those puppy teeth are small and cute now, itโ€™s never too early to start thinking about your petโ€™s dental health. ๐Ÿฆท

Why Early Dental Care Matters:
Just like in humans, dental health is crucial for your petโ€™s overall well-being. Neglecting dental care can lead to plaque buildup, gum disease, and even more serious health issues down the road, like heart, liver, and kidney problems. Starting dental care early helps prevent these issues and keeps your puppy happy and healthy for years to come.

How to Keep Those Teeth Clean and Healthy:

๐Ÿพ Start Brushing Early: Use a pet-friendly toothbrush and toothpaste. Start slow and make it a positive experience with lots of praise.
๐Ÿพ Dental Chews and Toys: Provide dental chews and toys designed to help reduce plaque and tartar buildup.
๐Ÿพ Regular Vet Check-Ups: Schedule regular vet visits to monitor your puppyโ€™s dental health and catch any issues early.
๐Ÿพ Balanced Diet: Feed a balanced diet that supports dental health, and always provide fresh water.
๐Ÿพ By starting good dental habits early, youโ€™ll help ensure your puppy grows into a healthy and happy adult dog with a beautiful smile! ๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿšจ Untreated dental disease can lead to chronic pain, infections, and even impact your petโ€™s heart, liver, and kidneys. Many pets suffer silently from dental pain because it often goes unnoticed. Regular check-ups help catch these issues early, ensuring your pet stays healthy and pain-free.

๐ŸŒŸ One of Dr. Carleโ€™s most memorable cases involved a dog hit by a storm while his owners were out of town. This family had limited resources and where willing to sell anything in their
farm to pay the vet bills. Dr. Carle went to the hospital 7 days a week to take care of him and
performed intense wound management. This case took a lot of patience, medical
treatment planning, client communication and compassion to get him back to walking and
eating.

His owners were so grateful for all the care and help towards their pet. Her dedication and compassionate care helped him recover, showing her commitment to animal welfare. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿฆท Did you know that over 80% of cats and dogs show signs of dental disease by age three? It begins with plaque buildup and can progress to more severe conditions like gingivitis and periodontal disease if untreated.

These diseases can lead to pain, tooth loss, and even affect your petโ€™s organs. Early detection is key to prevention!

Dr. O'Brien is here to answer an important question: What are the risks of not maintaining my pet's dental hygiene? ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ

Risks of Neglecting Dental Hygiene:

๐Ÿฆท Periodontal Disease: Poor dental care can lead to periodontal disease, which is a painful condition that can cause tooth loss and infections.
๐Ÿฆท Systemic Infections: Bacteria from the mouth can enter the bloodstream and affect other organs, leading to heart, liver, and kidney problems.
๐Ÿฆท Pain and Discomfort: Dental problems can cause significant pain and discomfort for your pet, affecting their ability to eat and their overall quality of life.
๐Ÿฆท Bad Breath: While it might seem minor, bad breath can be a sign of more serious dental issues and can make interactions with your pet less pleasant.
๐Ÿฆท Maintaining your petโ€™s dental hygiene through regular brushing, dental chews, and professional cleanings is essential for their overall health and well-being.

โ›ˆ๏ธ Storms can be stressful for everyone, especially our pets. Here are some tips to help you care for your pets during severe weather: ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

๐Ÿพ 1. Create a Pet Emergency Kit:
Food and Water: Ensure you have enough food and water for your pet to last at least 48 hours.
Medications: Include any necessary medications your pet needs, along with instructions for their use.
First Aid Kit: Have a pet first aid kit on hand for minor emergencies.
Important Documents: Keep copies of your pet's medical records and identification in a waterproof bag.

๐Ÿพ 2. Find a Safe Space:
Designate a Safe Area: Choose a secure room or area in your home where you and your pets can stay during the storm. A windowless room, like a bathroom or basement, is ideal to avoid flying debris.
Comfort Items: Bring their bed, favorite toys, and blankets to help them feel more at ease.

๐Ÿพ 3. Keep Pets Indoors:
Stay Inside: Never leave pets outside during a storm. Bring them indoors well before the storm hits.
Monitor Behavior: Watch for signs of anxiety or distress and comfort them as needed. Playing soft music or white noise can help mask the sound of the storm.

๐Ÿพ 4. Prepare for Power Outages:
Backup Lighting: Have a flashlight or battery-powered lantern on hand for emergency lighting.
Temperature Control: Ensure your pet stays comfortable if the power goes out. Have extra blankets for warmth or fans to keep them cool.

๐Ÿพ 5. Stay Informed:
Weather Updates: Stay updated on the weather conditions and be prepared to act quickly.
Emergency Contacts: Keep a list of emergency contacts, including your veterinarian and local animal shelters.

Remember, we're here for you and your pets during stormy weather. Maricamp Animal Hospital is open and accepting emergencies. If you need assistance, visit https://buff.ly/3Ymi24a or call us at 352-624-0300. โ˜Ž๏ธ Stay safe!
