Doctrinal Statement (What We Teach)

The Holy Scriptures

We teach that the Bible is God’s written revelation to man, and thus the 66 books of the Bible given to us by the Holy Spirit is inspired equally in all parts and is the Word of God (1 Corinthians 2:7–14; 2 Peter 1:20–21). We teach that the Word of God is an objective, propositional revelation (1 Thessalonians 2:13; 1 Corinthians 2:13), ver

Tomorrow at GIC. Jesus warns against inappropriate judging and commends appropriate judgment. The warning in verse one about judgment is not a complete prohibition but a condemnation of judgment that is not first applied to self.

This week in part 21 of the Sermon on the Mount Jesus shows that even those who have little wealth can become preoccupied with material things. He reminds us not the be anxious about the money we may not have, and how not to worry about daily provisions. In this message, I want to demonstrate how we can conquer worry and put our focus back on God.

This morning at GIC. We are often so busy accumulating earthly things that we fail to invest in Heaven. In our text, Jesus addresses the correct attitude Believers are to have toward temporal possessions. The issue isn’t that earthly treasures are intrinsically bad, but they are of no ultimate value. Since this is the case, it is wrong for us to dedicate life to continually expanding earthly treasures. This morning I will give the balance of our text in four ways. First, I want to explain that material things don’t last. Second, our heart always follows our treasure. Third, I want to ask you if you can see the light? Fourth, who do you faithfully serve? See you at 10 AM.

Today at GIC. We have seen Jesus confront hypocritical religion in His Sermon on the Mount. Over the last three weeks, we see His choice of three illustrations to help us understand the danger of heartless disciplines—hypocritical giving, praying, and fasting. Today, we will see how He applied the same basic lessons of giving and prayer to fasting. Biblical fasting involves abstaining from food to focus on worship or specific prayers to God. The fasting Jesus refers to in our text today is private fasting with prayer. This morning I want to explain four key things about fasting. First, what is biblical fasting? Second, how not to “fast.” Third, how should we fast? And fourth, when is biblical fasting appropriate? See you at 10 AM.

Last week we learned that Jesus taught His listeners not to pray hypocritically; to impress people or to use many words in hopes of impressing God (Mat.6:5–8). It’s important to remember that in the Sermon on the Mount Jesus is explaining the righteousness that He requires for His disciples. In our text, He introduces a model prayer to clarify His previous teaching on praying incorrectly. Known as the Lord’s Prayer, this is an example of the right kind of prayer.

Join us at 10AM. We'd love to see you.
