Today on Wednesday, September 11th, we had a fire drill with evacuation. We practice drills on a monthly basis to ensure all staff and students are prepared for how to respond in a potential emergency.

Students should be fully engaged and participatory while practicing how best to respond to an emergency.

You may have heard that we have a proposed bond measure on the November 2024 ballot, but did you know that this was all part of a long-range facilities plan?

In 2003, OCSD began a three phased approach to updating and upgrading our schools; making buildings safe, secure, and accessible. The 2003 bond created a new high school for our community, and in 2018, we came together to renovate our two middle schools while also providing critical security updates in every school in the district. For both of these bonds, the projects were completed on time and on budget.

Although we've made significant progress in our district, our six elementary schools have challenges. The average age of our six elementary schools is 62 years and our two oldest schools are 76 years old. These schools have not been updated sine they were originally built and have basic building systems like plumbing, heating, and air conditioning that are failing.

As we look to the third phase, we seek to address these significant health, safety, and educational inadequacies in our district's six elementary schools with a proposed bond measure on the November 2024 ballot.

Have you heard? We have a proposed bond measure on the November 2024 ballot!

Here are 6 things to know:
1. It is on the November 2024 ballot.
2. If passed, the district will receive a $6 million matching grant from the state.
3. If passed, 100% of bond funds would be used locally for Oregon City school.
If the proposed bond passes, it would:
4. Fund new air conditioning systems, update classrooms, and increase accessibility at all Oregon City elementary schools
5. Repair and update aging and inefficient building systems in all six elementary schools
6. Expand student opportunities with flexible learning spaces as well as additional Career and Technical Education (CTE) areas and field upgrades at Oregon City High School.

REMINDER!!!!
Students and families please be aware that OCHS will maintain a closed campus during lunches for the first two weeks of school (Sep. 3rd through Sep. 13th). Juniors and seniors will not be allowed to leave for lunch during this time period. This allows us time to account for the juniors and seniors who qualify for this privilege and their safety. Students will not be charged for lunches and if they prefer they can bring a sack lunch. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this two-week window.
