Orange Blossom Blues Society

The Orange Blossom Blues Society announces the 2024 CENTRAL FLORIDA BLUES CHALLENGE competition to be held on the big stage at Renningers Mount Dora Flea Market and Antique Center in Mount Dora, Florida on Sunday, September 29th from 1 to 5 p.m.
Three bands will be competing for a trip to Memphis in January to compete in The Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge. There will be an opening act featuring DoubleDuce (JW Gilmore and Dalton James), followed by the competition. Bring your chairs and your beverages, and help us pick a winner! A $10 donation is suggested to help us send the winner to Memphis.

JOIN US on Sunday, September 8th for the next edition of the Central Florida Blues Lovers' Jam! Come and listen to some of the best musicians in Central Florida, or better yet, bring your instrument or your voice and share your talent with us.

The jam starts at noon on the big outdoor stage at Renningers Mount Dora Flea Market and Antique Center in conjunction with Big Al’s Lake County Musician's Swap Meet. Come early to sign up for the jam, or just to listen to an afternoon of great blues.

The event featured Blues music and history, featuring artist Steve Arvey known for his performances with unique "cigar box guitars" that he also builds. This engaging presentation offered students a firsthand experience of Blues music
The "Blues In The Schools" program is designed to be interactive, with opportunities for children to participate scheduled by age group and specific times. This program is funded in part by the Seminole Cultural Arts Council (SCAC) from a Grant awarded to the Orange Blossom Blues Society and In-Kind donations from supporters.

Orange Blossom Blues Society Presents "Blues In The Schools" BITS Initiative Educational Program inSanford, FL Friday July 12, 2024

The Orange Blossom Blues Society (OBBS) is proud to announce the "Blues In The Schools" program, an educational initiative designed to introduce school children to the rich history and soulful sounds of Blues music. This exciting presentation will take place on July 12, 2024, at the Boys and Girls Club West Sanford Branch located at 919 S. Persimmon, within the City of Sanford’s Dr. Velma H. Williams Westside Community Center. This program is funded in part by the Seminole Cultural Arts Council (SCAC) from a Grant awarded to the Orange Blossom Blues Society and In-Kind donations from supporters.

The event will feature Blues music and history, featuring artist Steve Arvey known for his performances with unique "cigar box guitars” that he also builds. This engaging presentation will offer students a firsthand experience of Blues music, illustrating its significant impact on the evolution of modern music genres.

Cathy Bowers, President of the Orange Blossom Blues Society, emphasized the educational value of the program: "This is a great introduction to the important role Blues Music has played in American History. It's a wonderful way to engage students and show them how Blues music has influenced today's music."

The "Blues In The Schools" program is designed to be interactive, with opportunities for children to participate scheduled by age group and specific times. Parents and guardians are encouraged to make reservations by calling 407-330-2456, by emailing [email protected] or OBBS at [email protected]

For more information about the event, please contact Travis Knight, Director of the Boys and Girls Club at 407-330-2456. There is no charge for the children to attend the BITS Initiative.
