Holla Hose Company No. 5
Due to a lack of fire protection on the south side J. Edward Holla founded Holla Hose Company No. 5.
Due to a lack of fire protection on the south side of Ossining our founder, J. Edward Holla decided to establish Holla Hose on April 25, 1900. Holla Hose operates a 2022 Pierce Enforcer with a membership of approximately 30 volunteers. Our quarters is located right next to the historic Sing Sing Correctional Facility Prison on the corner of State Street and Lafayette Avenue.

Yesterday the OFD attended St. Augustine's School for one of our final stops during our Fire Prevention program and today we hosted the First Steps pre-school program at our Fire Headquarters.
With that, we have officially concluded our program for the 2023-2024 school year.
Apparatus involved: Utility 51, Engine 96, Engine 99, Tower Ladder 42 and Ladder 41
Today the OFD continued with our Fire Prevention program at All Aboard Nursery School and Roosevelt School. The kids at Roosevelt would conduct a fire drill followed by a brief assembly from our Fire Prevention Officer and a tour of the apparatus. Ladder 41 was able to stick the roof with the aerial while Captain Porricelli of Engine 101 climbed to the tip. The kids were able to ask questions about the apparatus and the equipment as well.
Apparatus included Engine 100, Engine 101 and Ladder 41.
Today, around 3pm, one of 60 Control’s senior members will be signing off the air for the last time.
After over 28 years with our Emergency Communications Center, Lieutenant Paul Jockimo, #605, will be “hanging up his headset” and working his last shift with us.
Many in the Emergency Services community not only in Westchester County, but all around the nation, also know Paul for his many decades of work and instruction on Critical Incident Stress Management and dealing with the stresses and traumas that First Responders deal with during their careers.
Feel free to call the ECC today to send your well-wishes to Paul, and keep your radios on around 3:00 this afternoon for his final sign-off.
Thank you, Paul, for your nearly three decades of service, commitment and, shall we say, “entertaining” years here as “605.”

Hudson Line service is suspended between Croton-Harmon and Tarrytown because of a significant mudslide onto our tracks due to today's weather.
MTA is strongly recommending that customers take the Harlem Line, which is running a full schedule.
There is no service at Philipse Manor, Scarborough, and Ossining. Please travel to alternate stations for service.
County-provided bus service is being offered to take passengers north of the landslide site. Metro North is assessing needs for Monday's commute, with the hopes of having one track operational with limited service.

Fire Prevention Program Begins:
Yesterday the members of the OFD Fire Prevention Committee and members of the OFD visited Park School to begin our annual fire prevention program.
The kids would have a fire drill followed by an assembly. During the program, the kids learned about stop, drop & roll, the importance of fire safety, having a special assembly place for their family in the event of an emergency and the teachers learned how to extinguish a fire using our extinguisher prop.
Afterwards the kids would be able to go outside and check out the trucks, where they also had a special visit from Sparky!
Engine 100, Ladder 41 and Engine 97 were on the detail.
Hose testing:
Our annual hose & ladder testing was conducted over a couple days earlier this week. We conduct these tests every year to ensure our equipment is up to standards and whatever is faulty gets removed from service immediately.
There will be a test of the Weather Alert (WEA) and Emergency Alert System (EAS) tomorrow at 2:20 pm. This will be nationwide. One test will go to your mobile phone while the other will go to radios, televisions, etc.
FEMA, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) today, October 4th @ approximately 2:20 PM.
This test will consist of two portions, testing both WEA and EAS capabilities.
The WEA portion of the test will be directed to all consumer cell phones. The EAS portion of the test will be sent to radios and televisions.
FEMA and the FCC are coordinating with EAS participants, wireless providers, emergency managers & other stakeholders in preparation for this national test to minimize confusion and maximize the public safety value of the test.

The Village of Ossining Water Department will start its semiannual hydrant-flushing program this evening, Monday, October 2nd, 2023. Flushing of hydrants will be performed between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. in order to minimize disruptions to our residents.
The hydrant-flushing program takes approximately five weeks to complete. As the flushing of hydrants takes place closer to your home, you may notice some discoloration in your water first thing in the morning. Do not be alarmed. Just run your water for a short period of time, and it should clear up. If the discoloration persists, please notify the Water Department at 941-6111.
The Water Department regrets any temporary inconvenience you may experience; however, this operation is necessary for us to ensure the continued cleanliness of the water distribution system. We will do everything possible to minimize any problems.
HEADS UP NY: Your phone, TV, and radio will receive a TEST emergency alert on October 4th at 2:20 p.m. as part of a nationwide test by FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Communications Commission.
