Rancho Campana High School’s nonprofit RC Makes hosted their Academy Bridge Program this week for incoming 9th graders. Over 70 future Monarchs chose from different courses that they’re interested in to get acclimated to career pathways. Current students and alumni taught the courses which included performing arts, health science, computer science, visual arts and more!
Ten outstanding student representatives from Oxnard Union participated in The 2024 Global Innovation Race last week. 🌎 Students from around the world worked together to create a solution to a real-world, global issue using tech, entrepreneurship, and Stanford's Design Thinking. Students received a guided campus tour of Stanford University, toured the Tesla Factory, and explored the Intel and Computer History Museum. 🖥 Thank you to our district Instructional Specialists for chaperoning the week!

🤝 Students from Oxnard High School, Pacifica High School, and Channel Islands High School finished their Summer at City Hall with the City of Oxnard Government. The 28 students completed over 60 hours of paid internships.
🏈 Oxnard High School's girls flag football team visited the Dallas Cowboys training camp.
🩺 Rio Mesa High School's Intro to Health Careers toured Vitalant Blood Donation in Ventura where students learned about the different blood types.

With a career spanning over two decades in education, Dr. Shannon Scott brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the Oxnard Union High School students, families, and staff to her role as Director of State and Federal Programs. Born and raised in Oxnard, she is fully committed to helping all students in OUHSD strive for prosperity. Starting as a classroom teacher at Oxnard High School, Dr. Scott quickly distinguished herself with a passion for supporting diverse learners. Her journey continued as an ASB Director and later an administrator, where she honed her leadership and program development skills.
As a former Student Services Director and as Principal at Rio Mesa, Dr. Scott has a proven track record of implementing effective programs that enhance student well-being and academic success. Her holistic approach ensures that both state and federal initiatives are seamlessly integrated to meet the unique needs of the school community. Dedicated to fostering inclusive and supportive educational environments, Dr. Scott is committed to driving positive change and ensuring all students have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
Rio Mesa High School’s Intro to Criminal Justice and Public Safety CTE course took a tour of the Ventura County Criminal Justice Training Center today. The Spartans got to experience the simulator room and learned about the physical demands of the Peace Officers.
ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Hueneme High School’s Trae Briers is a movie director and teaches the Film and Video CTE course at Frontier High School. Briers is in pre-production of his next boxing film which is based in Oxnard. He believes his students have made him a better director and looks forward to showcasing Oxnard in his next film. 🎥 👨🏫

On Sunday Scorpions Boston Bateman saw his dreams turn to reality when the San Diego Padres selected him in the second round of the MLB draft. Boston is looking forward to making his hometown proud and is starting a foundation in honor of his childhood friend who passed away from cancer. We can’t wait to see what he accomplishes in the future!

Adolfo Camarillo High School’s Intro to Coding for Robotics course took to learning outside of the classroom today. The CTE class toured Ventura College’s Advanced Manufacturing Center and learned more about the courses they offer. 🧑💻

With 24 years of experience in education to include previously an adjunct professor at CLU, Alexis Phillips Ortiz has showcased her dedication and leadership across various roles including teacher, Summer School Principal, Dean, and Assistant Principal. Throughout her tenure, she has fostered strong relationships within communities, among staff, and with students, while also establishing connections with feeder schools. Mrs. Ortiz is renowned for her inclusive and encouraging approach, which has contributed to cultivating a culture of support and empowerment. Her passion for student and family success is evident in her commitment to creating safe and inclusive environments, where collaboration and mutual respect thrive. Central to her philosophy is the belief that nurturing relationships, fostering leadership among staff, and addressing the diverse needs of students and parents are essential for realizing the mission's vision. With her mantra of "success on purpose," Mrs. Ortiz is honored to be our Community Schools Coordinator.
Students who have been taking CTE courses this summer have been gaining valuable knowledge. Today Pacifica High School’s Introduction to Film & Video Production class toured . 📺 Great experience for students to learn what goes on behind the scenes. 🎥
We have partnered with Daybreak Health to offer our students no-cost virtual mental health support. Students can check in with their Wellness Center for more information this summer.

Adolfo Camarillo High School's star pitcher Boston Bateman was featured on News Channel 3-12 last night 📺 The 2024 Major League Baseball Draft begins this Sunday and Bateman is expected to be either a first day or early second day selection. ⚾️
Former Adolfo Camarillo High School alumni Jaime Jaquez Jr. is one of 15 athletes named to the 2024 USA Basketball Men's Select Team 🏀 The Select Team is training with the USA Basketball Men's National Team in Las Vegas as they prepare for the Olympic Games. Team USA begins its five-game exhibition schedule on July 10th against Canada before opening the Olympics in France on July 28th against the Serbian National Team.

Please join us in welcoming Gary Peterson as the new Principal of Rio Mesa High School. Gary got his start in education as a high school and middle school mathematics teacher. He taught for ten years and was an assistant principal in Northern California before moving back to Ventura County in 2015. Gary has served Oxnard Union for 9 years as an assistant principal at Adolfo Camarillo High School, Rio Mesa High School, and Oxnard High School. Gary is incredibly thankful to be returning to Rio Mesa as the new Principal and is honored that the staff and community have trust in him to keep the Spartan legacy strong!
