How do you improve Obstetric care in the heart of Silicon Valley?

We can’t always expect technology to solve our problems. I love my electronic medical record system that allows me to respond to patient messages and send prescriptions from my cell phone. I can’t imagine practicing Obstetrics without a fancy ultrasound machine that allows me to detect a fetal heartbeat in the 6th week of pregnancy.

Knowing your patients and building a relationship is often overlooked by physicians of my generation. It’s not “cool” compared to the latest tech and it surely isn’t easy to be available for your patients most days of the year.

Patients are not the only ones who benefit greatly from personalized medical care. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that physician burnout is at an all time high around the same time more and more physicians consider this “shift work”.

I can’t imagine work that could be more fulfilling than building relationships with patients and helping them bring their babies safely into the world!
