Concussion testing scheduled for tomorrow, Monday 6/24, and Tuesday 6/25 are canceled. Following camp this past week I have fallen sick and will not be able to hold concussion testing. Due to having to cancel the next two days, I have added 4 more make-up days in July. Please see the schedule attached. There are some open days the two following weeks, but as of now I do not plan to have any testing those days as I will need time to prepare for Fall season to start the beginning of August. If you have any questions, feel free to private message me.
‼️CORRECTION: Testing Thursday June 6 will be 12pm-5pm‼️
Here is the schedule for Make-up concussion testing. Please make an effort to make it to one of these days. As of now I will not have testing in July, but I may add a couple days around mt vacations. If you have any questions, please message me directly.
Wishing all Mother’s a Happy Mother’s Day! 🌸
‼️Also I apologize for the inconvenience, but I am going to have to cancel concussion testing for the next two days. I will get those new date to you soon. I didn’t realize Tuesday was Election day when I made the schedule‼️
‼️Reminder‼️ you must have your iPad at testing. If you do not have the ability to bring it, please message me a heads up so I can be prepared with an extra computer or iPad! Thanks!
Concussion Testing schedule is now set for the 2024-2025 school year. Please read this entire post to ensure you understand what you need to do and when.
*Am I an incoming Freshman or Junior wanting to participate in sports at PHS in 2024-25? Yes - I need to complete testing
*Am I an incoming Sophomore or Senior who completed testing last year for sports in 2024-25? Yes - I DO NOT need to complete testing
*Am I a new incoming Fr/So/Jr/Sr athlete who did not participate in a sport last year? Yes - I need to complete testing
All concussion testing dates will be completed in the Hall of Fame room in the Annex MINUS the following dates: 5/20, 5/21, and 5/22. The sports affected those days are Boys/Girls XC and Boys/Girls Track. your testing will be held in the classroom on the 2nd floor of the Annex.
If you are a multiple sport athlete, you ONLY have to attend one of your designated sports testing days.
Please bring your school iPad and do not show up later than 4:45pm. These times are set to allow kids to be able to stay right after school to complete their testing and allow me the time to get through everyone as I am only one person.
You MUST have your testing completed before the start of your regular season. If it is not completed prior to the start of your season, you will not be able to practice and could affect your eligibility to participate in your first games of the season. It is STRONGLY encouraged that you complete your testing now to avoid a delayed start to your regular season participation. Some coaches will require it to participate this Summer.
Make-up dates will be posted in the next couple of weeks for June. As of now, there will be no make-up testing in the month of July.
If you have any questions, please feel free to message me.

We are more than halfway through 2024 Tennis Regionals and Emma enjoyed a quick session on the Therm-X for preventative care after a long hot day on the tennis courts!
Our Therm-X machine has found great use this sports year. Thank you to Parkersburg High School Alumni for Athletics for their generous donation to help make this happen for our athletes!
*Permission was given by the parents to post*
Wishing our wonderful Big Red family the Merriest of Christmases! May your day is filled with family, friends, joy, love, and all things in between! 🌲
On behalf of myself the Athletic Trainer, the Athletic Department, and the student athletes at Parkersburg High School, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Parkersburg High School Alumni for Athletics for providing us with the funds to purchase our newest therapeutic modality.
Therm-X AT combines compression therapy with either cold, heat, or contrast. This machine is used for acute injuries and post-surgical patients for reduction of edema, swelling, and pain. It can also be used for maintenance of joints undergoing stress each day in practice and games (i.e. quarterbacks shoulder, soccer players hips/knees, gymnasts backs, etc.)
The coolant used is a mixture of 91% isopropyl alcohol and distilled water which filters from the machine, through the hose, and into the attachment being used. It is similar to a what most may be familiar with such as the Game Ready or Iceman, but differs as it can provide heat and contrast.
The Alumni for Athletics made it possible for us to purchase everything that comes with the Therm-X AT. That includes:
•Therm-X AT Machine
•Single Hose
•Split Umbilical Hose (allows 2 treatments simultaneously)
•Coolant Mixing Bottle
•Hospital Grade Power Supply
•Carrying Case for travel purposes
•Shoulder Garment
•Elbow Garment (on its way)
•Back Garment
•Hip Garment
•Knee Garment
•Ankle Garment
The athletes that have used the Therm-X thus far have loved it. It has helped reduce swelling significantly after only 1 use in some athletes. Our Big Red athletes are very appreciative that the Alumni for Athletics were able to provide them with this new therapy option to help positively influence their rehabilitation as well as maximize their potential on the field, court, etc.
‼️REQUIREMENTS REMINDER‼️
With the 3-week period starting MONDAY, JUNE 12, 2023, I just wanted to put out a post to remind parents/guardians of the requirements that need to be completed for your athlete(s) to participate in athletics at Parkersburg High School.
1. First and foremost PHYSICALS. All athletes must have a physical turned in to start participating in sports starting Monday. If you do not have a physical turned in or do not bring your physical Monday, you cannot start until you do so. Physicals can be turned into the coach, Mackenzie the Athletic Trainer, or the athletic office in the Field House.
2. Make-up concussion testing schedule was released a little over a week ago. I have set up a google doc to sign up for testing. The last date to complete concussion testing is June 29th if you want to begin in August for the 2023-24 sports year. That means ALL FALL SPORTS ATHLETES need to sign up ASAP to ensure they start on time. Please click the link, find the tab with the date you would like to attend, and then fill in your name, grade, and sports under the time you want. It is first come first serve on times. If you have trouble signing up, please let me know and I will fill it in for you.
YOU HAVE TO BE SIGNED UP FOR A TIME TO SHOW UP. If times slots are not filled in by anyone, I may not be in the Hall of Fame Room therefore I will not be open for walk-ins.

3. SportsWare MUST be completed ASAP. Please follow the instructions attached to get that completed. This gives our Athletic Trainer all the medical information needed in case there is an emergency regarding your athlete. Please message the page with any questions regarding SportsWare.
Yesterday we were able to complete 436 physicals for our athletes of Wood County in 4 hours.

Our day went so smooth and we can’t thank our volunteers enough for making that happen. This was the only picture I snagged during the day, but we are especially thankful for these 4 who worked our checkout table. They made sure every athlete’s physical was 100% completed before they left. You guys did great!
Thank you to all of our Doctors, Physical Therapists, and the Nursing Students from our Tech center who volunteered their time to help us. You are AMAZING!
A HUGE thank you to WVU Medicine for sponsoring our event and allowing us to use your facility to make this happen.
Thank you to our boss, Louie Haer, for helping us at the front table yesterday. He made sure the athletes had everything filled out that was needed before they would enter, leaving less work for our medical professionals in the back.
Thank you to Joe Leaman for organizing this whole day and making sure we had everything we needed. His hard work and dedication to our athletes does not go unnoticed and we appreciate him more than he knows.
Thank you to our ATs over our Wood County Schools for putting this day together after covering the BACF football game in St. Mary’s the night before. You all are rockstars!
Last, but not least, THANK YOU to all of our athletes for being so respectful as you went through the building. We heard great things from many of the adults in regards to your behavior and patience even when having to wait in a backed up line. Not once did we have to ask people to lower their voices for our medical professionals to hear.
‼️IT’S PHYSICAL DAY‼️
Don’t forget to get your physical with us TODAY at the WVU Medicine Medical Complex behind the mall! You MUST have a physical on file to participate in the 3 week period. All proceeds from PHS Athletes go right back to the Athletic Training Department!
‼️CONCUSSION TESTING SIGN-UP‼️
First off please note tomorrow is no longer a make-up day. I had to move cheer to tomorrow!!
Use the link below to sign up for a concussion testing date and time. Please note at the bottom of the google doc there are pages and each page is a different day. Find the day you would like and then sign up for a time under that day. If you have any problems, please message me.
This is for all athletes Fall/Winter/Spring. If you are a Fall athlete, please note that you HAVE to have your testing done by June 29th. So please take advantage of these make-up dates to get it done.
Concussion testing is in the Hall of Fame Room located in the Annex by the football field. Please use door 18 and follow the stairwell up. The HOF room is the red door at the top of the stairs.

Hi all! I have my concussion testing make-up schedule set for the month of June. I have decided to make a Google doc sign up sheet to go along with it so I don’t have too many show up at one time and cause for longer wait times. This is why it hasn’t been posted yet. I am finishing setting up the Google doc this morning. It will be first come, first serve. If you have any issues signing up, message me and I will help. Also if a time is filled that is the only time that works for you, please let me know and I will try to help accommodate.
Remember all Fall sports must have their concussion testing done by June 29th or they cannot start the beginning of August. Some coaches are requiring you to have it done before you can participate in the 3 week period so please be aware of that.
Any Winter/Spring athletes I encourage you to get it done now so you do not have to be delayed in the start of your season as I may not have time closer to that time to retest.
The schedule and Google doc will be released by this afternoon. I apologize for the delay, I just want to make sure this runs as smoothly as possible and I feel a sign up sheet is the best option for that.
‼️CONCUSSION TESTING CANCELED‼️
Please share to get the word out. I have fallen sick and will have to cancel concussion testing for today. I will release the makeup days for June soon. I am sorry for the inconvenience.
‼️IMPORTANT‼️
I’m sorry for the late notice, but slight change in plans. Cheer concussion testing will be moved to June 2nd tentatively. Tomorrow (May 16th) 11th and 12th graders playing girls soccer will have concussion testing in the Hall of Fame room. Sorry for the inconvenience.
‼️Important Information for Sports Year 2023-24‼️
There are some new changes to requirements for this next sports year, so please read carefully. This post will talk about Sports Physicals, Concussion Testing, and SportsWare requirements.
1. $5 Sports Physicals will be held on June 3rd. Please see the flyer for more information. The proceeds from these physicals will go towards our Athletic Training program. A PHYSICAL WILL BE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY ACTIVITIES STARTING IN JUNE. You will not be allowed to participate until it has been turned in. The Coplin Health Center on campus is offering free physicals for the month of May if you cannot attend our physical day and need a way to get it completed before the 3 week period. The link to the NEW/UPDATED physical form will be in the comments.
2. SportsWare is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to be completed before partaking in the 3 week period and summer activities and some coaches will require you to have it done beforehand. This will give me all the information I need in case of an emergency as well as the consent to treat your child. The hard deadline for SportsWare to be completed is June 29th at 5pm. Any incoming 9th graders that have created a profile for their respective middle school has been transferred to PHS. You will not have to create a new account. Please see the instructions attached below.
3. Concussion testing schedule is attached for Fall sport athletes for the month of May and into June. Testing will be in the Hall of Fame room in the upstairs of the Annex until further notice. If you cannot make your date, please contact me through this page or my email and I will make accommodations. There are 2 make-up days at the end of May if needed. The schedule for June will be released as soon as I get my Summer schedule for practices. There will only be 3 weeks of makeup testing available for ALL athletes. Fall Sport athletes MUST have their concussion testing completed by June 29th if they want to compete this Fall. It is strongly encouraged to get your concussion testing done this Summer no matter what season you compete in as my time is limited once the school year starts. Not completing testing will set back your start time for your sport.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Wishing our Big Red community a very Merry Christmas! I hope everyone has a wonderful day full of joy, happiness, and lots of love. ❤️

‼️NEW CONCUSSION TESTING INFO‼️
Hi everyone. We are starting to prepare for the 2022-23 Sports Season with our mass physical day on May 14th (see flyer posted on page for more information), SportsWare needing to be completed starting May 1st, and Concussion Testing starting in May.
For those of you familiar with the concussion testing, you know we have two concussion tests. The ImPACT online test completed by Freshman and Juniors and the SCAT5 completed every year. We have now added a new iPad based sideline test. With this new test we are changing the yearly requirements. Now the ImPACT and SCAT5 tests will be completed ONLY by Freshman and Juniors. The new test called BrainCheck will be completed yearly. This test takes less than 10 minutes and should help decrease wait times. However, Freshman and Juniors should still expect longer wait times due to the SCAT5 being administered by the Athletic Trainer one at a time.
Reminder about physicals! These physicals will be given directly to your school so you don't have to worry about turning them in!
March is National Athletic Training month. Here at the Health and Wellness Center, we want to celebrate the hard work and dedication of Amanda Branch, James Dearien, and Mackenzie Rice. Thank you for everything you do for the student-athletes in our area. Especially the student-athletes at Parkersburg South High School, Williamstown High School, and Parkersburg High School. If you would like to join us in celebrating these individuals, please comment below!!!
