We were honored to be able to support kettle kick off! We were happy to have volunteered to serve by bell ringing on Dec. 2 as well! We loved that you got a great action shot of Pasadena Host Lions Club member, Lion Mitch, putting a $20 into the USC Red Kettle which is one of the highlights of a spirited competition for a great cause, The Salvation Army - Pasadena, CA!

We support raising much needed funds for the programs of one of our partner organizations, the Salvation Army Pasadena Tabernacle Corps. Through ringing the bell at the red kettle, we show the community that there is a huge need in Pasadena for those who are hungry, those who need housing, those who need mental health services and the list goes on and on. We are thankful to be able to serve in this way showing our community support in service to our partners, helping carry the very heavy load together! Thank you Lions Ron, Debbie, Donna and Diana for serving on Saturday the 2nd ringing the bell at the red kettle! We hope those who encounter the red kettle and volunteers will give a little something to help make our world a better place through the services provided by the Salvation Army!

Supporting Our Partners This Morning! Our Pasadena Lion Pride attended the 10th Annual Red Kettle Kick Off Breakfast at the Pasadena Tabernacle Corps. Wonderful to share time together! Thank you Lion President Ron and Lions Mitch, Debbie, Dick, Nicole, Donna, Kirit and Sara, who is a friend to we Lions and of course Lion Kirit's daughter! The joy to our USC Trojans was that the USC Kettle raised more than 3 times the money this year than the UCLA Bruins Kettle. However, we Lions have Trojans and Bruins in our Pride of Lions so we did, as a club, donate equally to both Kettles!

Make your own white cane lapel pin for White Cane Day!
White Cane Day is generally observed on October 15th of each year and celebrates the independence people who are blind earn through the use of this important orientation and mobility tool. White Cane Day also aims to spread awareness to the general community that people who are blind are confident, independent and able.
You can make your own Cane Lapel Pins to wear with pride and share with friends!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
• paperclip
• safety pin
• mini perler beads (you’ll need 5 black, 12 white and 3 red)
• white round pearl bead
MAKING YOUR CANE LAPEL PIN
1. First straighten your paperclip and bend a loop at the end.
2. Add your beads, the round pearl bead first for the cane tip, then the red, white and black beads.
3. Bend a hook at the end of your paperclip and slip the safety pin through the hook.
4. Wear your cane lapel pin with pride on October 15th and throughout the month or even year round!

There are many activities taking place around the world for White Cane Safety/Awareness Day. Here is just one of many. Way to go! 👩‍🦯🦯👏🦯👨‍🦯

🦯✨Today, on October 15, we celebrate White Cane Awareness Day!

•We at Hearts for Sight are commemorating this special day by hiking at Topanga Canyon!🏞

•During this hike, the amazing VIP members of our community will utilize their canes in natural settings to help navigate different terrain.🏔️🌱

•This hike beautifully represents the importance of the white cane in our community as a tool of independence and strength.💪

PD: The photo has a gray background. in the center of the photo are two photos in a collage. The top photo in the collage is of a group of our VIP members hiking a canyon utilizing their white canes. The photo below is of another group of our VIP members hiking and using their white canes to navigate their way around rocky terrain. The text above the collage reads: White Cane Awareness Day! Today, October 15, 2023. Below the photo collage, near the bottom of the post, is the text that reads: The white cane: A symbol of Independence, visibility, and resilience!

Our program on Tuesday, November 4 will feature the hope team. If you wish to join us for any of our Lions gatherings, always on the first and third Tuesday of every month, message us, we’d love to have you.

Look familiar?

You might have recognized Christopher, who has been sleeping at the bus bench on Walnut Street east of Marengo Avenue for several weeks. Christopher has been homeless for the past eight years.

After multiple attempts to find housing for Christopher, the HOPE Team finally gained his trust to connect him with Najwa and Angel from Friends in Deed. Since Christopher speaks French, Susana Porras, the PPD Program Coordinator, provided translation services.

Today, Christopher was temporarily placed in a local motel pending permanent shelter availability. It's a start to a hopeful ending.

Although it may seem small to some, this is a significant victory for the team. On average, it takes about 17 contacts to gain the trust of someone experiencing homelessness, so it requires patience and persistence. While it's not an easy role, the successful outcomes that the HOPE Team achieves make it all worthwhile. One day at a time, they are making a difference in people's lives.

We extend our gratitude to everyone who has assisted Christopher during his journey.❤️

“We Serve”

For nearly 100 years, our club in Pasadena has been serving our community in all kinds of ways: we cook with compassion for people who are homeless, prepare Meals of Love for families at Pasadena Ronald McDonald House, provide vision screenings and eyeglasses to those in need, and we support local programs that assist seniors, the disabled or develop our youth. We are committed to making our world a better place. If you are looking for a great way to connect and serve, we invite you to visit us to see what being a Lion is all about.
