Two Mercer County Child Car Seat Events Scheduled to Keep Children Safe in Vehicles
Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler announces his office will hold two complimentary child car seat checkup events during National Child Passenger Safety Week.
Tuesday, September 17, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Mercer County Park, Boathouse parking lot, 1668 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor Township.
Saturday, September 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the parking lot across from the Mercer County Administration Building, 640 South Broad Street in Trenton.
These two safety initiatives are promoted by the Sheriff’s Office and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to educate parents, grandparents, and caregivers on how to keep children safe while traveling. They are funded by a generous grant from the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety.
“It is easy and smart for a family to have their child’s car seat inspected for essential protection should an accident occur,” said Sheriff Jack Kemler
Participants can ask questions and receive hands-on instruction from certified technicians on properly using car seats and booster seats. The technicians will also provide information on choosing the right car seat for a child’s age and size, how to correctly install the seat in their vehicle, and how to use that seat correctly every time. Each checkup will take place in the order of arrival. For more information on the Sheriff’s Office Child Seat Program, call 609-209-2880 during business hours.
The entire safety check usually takes no more than five or ten minutes and can save a life,” added Sheriff Kemler.
