Someone once told me the 5-year rule. In the moment, ask yourself, “Is this decision I am about to make or is this issue something that is going to matter to me in 5 years?” Most of the time the answer is NO, it will not. So, if it will not matter to you in 5 years, please don’t let it bother you for more than 5 minutes. This has helped me stress less and realize the magnitude or lack thereof things really are.

If the infant has a strong sucking urge after eating, with a seemingly continued need to suckle, parents may want to ask their doctor of chiropractic about cranial care for their infant. Frequently, cranial misalignment causes a distress that is relieved by the sucking mechanism.
Pediatric chiropractic is a safe alternative to medication for soothing infant colic!
✅Ice massage is a simple way to help ease an injury or other condition. Ice massage can help decrease pain, swelling, inflammation, or muscle spasms from a new or old injury.
✅First, make the ice cup: Fill a paper or dixie cup with water so it is 3/4 of the way full. Put the cup of water into the freezer. Once the water is completely frozen, remove the cup from the freezer. You are now ready to give yourself an ice massage.
✅Begin sitting with a towel underneath the area you will be icing. The towel will absorb any water that melts as you are icing. Tear off the top 2/3 of the frozen cup to expose the ice. Using the bottom of the cup as a handle, apply the ice to the injured area. Use a circular or up and down pattern. Keep your strokes small, concentrated, and continuous. Make sure not to hold the ice in one place to avoid irritating your skin.
✅Continue icing until you have felt the four stages of cold progression:
1. Cold, 2. Burning, 3. Aching, 4. Numb
One way to remember this progression is with the acronym CBAN.
✅Talk to your healthcare provider before performing ice massage, especially if you have:
-Poor blood flow
-Peripheral vascular disease
-Are hypersensitive to cold
-If you have numb areas, infections, open wounds, or other skin conditions
✅If you have any questions about ice massage, let us know!

Devon is great!!
Meet Devon!
Devon works at our Lake Ave location and utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), working from a strengths based and client-centered approach in her sessions.
Fun fact about Devon... She enjoys crocheting, particularly cute little stuffed animals for her children! Something interesting about crocheting and knitting: research suggests that crochet offers positive benefits for wellbeing with many respondents in one study actively using crochet to manage mental health conditions and life events such as grief, chronic illness and pain (Burns, P., & Van Der Meer, R., 2021).
A contributor to the Anxiety Resource Center (ARC) blog writes that knitting and crocheting can help with anxiety, with one potential reason being that "bilateral, coordinated, precise hand movements are hard work for the brain, and crossing over midline requires even more brainwork. As a result, we are less able to pay attention to other issues and concerns. In other words, knitting 'distracts' the brain." Also, more serotonin is released with repetitive movement, which improves mood and sense of calmness. Once you’ve learned knitting or crochet, it can also reduce blood levels of cortisol-the stress hormone (Houtman, B., 2017).

Have we become so afraid of the sun that we've forgotten its incredible benefits? Before slathering on sunscreen at the first sign of sunshine, check out these quick tips for smarter sun exposure.
☀️8 Reasons to Soak Up the Sun:
-Best source of Vitamin D
-Reduces d!sease risk
-Lowers blood pressure
-Lessens chances of autoimmune d!seases
-Stimulates brain function
-May reduce depression risk
-Helps establish normal sleep patterns
-Encourages healthy skin and reduces fungal infections
☀️The Sun’s 3 Types of UV Radiation:
-UVC: Blocked by the ozone layer, not a concern.
-UVB: Can damage the top layer of skin and alter DNA, but can also protect from skin cellular damage when exposed correctly. AKA the “Burn Rays.”
-UVA: Penetrates deeper, leading to premature aging and increased skin cell damage risk.
☀️Sun Exposure Tips:
-Optimal exposure: 10-40 minutes between 10 AM and 3 PM.
-Start slowly, around 10 minutes, then gradually increase.
-If skin starts to turn pink, go indoors.
-Use protective clothing, seek shade, and avoid excessive sun.
-Eat an anti-inflammatory diet and support your liver to prevent sunburns.
-Consider natural sunscreen alternatives for prolonged exposure.
☀️If you do burn, skip the "naturally derived" lotions full of chemicals. Instead, try our Sun Soothe, made from Grapeseed Oil, Cucumber Seed Oil, Mango Butter, Lavender, Calendula, Comfrey, and Plantain.
🌿 Natural Sunburn Relief DIY's

There are 3 ways in which your body balances itself and has equilibrium
1) Your VESTIBULAR SYSTEM is located in your inner ear. It is a system of fluid filled canals that communicate with your brain and provide input as to where your body is in space. At times this system can have issues and provide the incorrect information.
2) Your body gets PROPRIOCEPTIVE cues or feedback from your feet, joints, muscles and nerves that also tell your brain where you are in space. At times this system may be limited in the information it is providing and cause balance issues as well. Proper neurological input is vital for its success.
3) Your body must have STRENGTH in your muscles to allow you to balance in space. If you are weak in your feet, legs, hips or core, your balance will be poor.
If you are having BALANCE issues, we can help. By supporting all three of these areas, we are able to strengthen your body's ability to help you balance in space and walk with greater ease.

Chiropractic care and women’s health physical therapy in pregnancy is vital to the normal physiological function of both the mother and baby throughout pregnancy and birth. More women and birth providers are discovering the many benefits associated with chiropractic care in pregnancy and recognize this area of expertise through Webster Certification.
The Webster technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of this gentle adjustment is to reduce the effects of subluxation and/or SI joint dysfunction to improve alignment and function and allow for optimal fetal
positioning.
Therefore, we are not “turning” your baby. We are aligning your pelvis and releasing tight muscle and ligaments through a variety of gentle means to allow baby to assume optimal fetal positioning.

✅A POWER LIFT is good for lifting heavy objects off the floor. To perform a power lift,
-Position yourself close to the item with your feet about shoulder width apart
Pull in your belly button to stabilize your spine and squat down by bending your knees. Pick up the item, keeping it as close to your body as possible
Make sure you have a firm grip on the item, so it does not slip and avoid twisting your trunk when carrying the object.
✅A DIAGONAL SQUAT LIFT is good for lifting medium weight objects from the floor or for lifting objects out of awkward spaces.
-To perform a diagonal squat lift, position yourself close to the item with your feet staggered widely around the item to be lifted
Pull in your belly muscles to stabilize your spine and place one foot ahead of the other in a staggered stance
Pick up the item, keeping it as close to your body as possible
Make sure you have a firm grip on the item, so it does not slip and avoid twisting your trunk when carrying the object.
✅ A GOLFER'S PICKUP is ideal for lifting light items from the floor.
- To perform a golfer’s pickup, position yourself close to the item you will be lifting.
Reach down with your dominant hand while balancing on your opposite leg.
Gently tighten your belly muscles and keep your back straight as you pick up the item. Avoid twisting your trunk throughout the movement.

On June 21st, 2024 Natalie Rae Wolland was born to the most loving mom and dad, Aaron and Dr. Kimberly. Her family was able to cuddle and love on her for the most incredible 19 days until they lost Natalie on July 9th.
God blessed them with a perfect angel. She was the most strong, sweet and sassy baby that was loved beyond measures.
Please help us support Aaron and Kimberly at this time. We would like to take some of the financial burden off of them and let them focus on healing. Please lift them and their family in prayer.
Thank you all so much for your love and support

When infants spend time on their backs and on their tummies, they benefit from the opportunity to move naturally— and that alone propels them to eventually crawl, sit, and walk. It is in this process of moving in reaction to the sensory input of being on the floor that appropriate coordination of movement and muscular co-activation occurs. Without each link, occurring in sequence, the chain of motor development becomes skewed and altered patterns are more likely to occur.

Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸
Just a reminder Dr Matt, Dr Sara And Stacey are out of the office!
How you get in and out of a chair is a great opportunity to create that space and strength.
To rise: Keep your knees on top of your ankles, lean forward, and send your hips behind you as you rise to stand. If this is too difficult, use a little bit of momentum until it becomes easier. It’s harder than it looks!
To sit: Reach your upper body forward for counterbalance as you reach your hips behind you. Notice if you have the tendency to “fall” after a certain point. This can often be traced back to tension in the hamstring.
Our real obligation regarding our children’s play is not to be their playmates but to figure out ways, in this isolating world we have created, to bring our children into free, regular, prolonged contact with other children.
Dr. Matt, Dr. Sara and Stacey will be out of the office July 3 through July 7. Give us a call today if you would like to schedule an appointment before the holiday week. 309–691–9355.
