Our relationship to sleep in our society is at best, toxic. Too often we reward sleeplessness as a sign of dedication to work, an abundant social life or a signal of importance. Bragging about how little sleep one gets while still being able to (barely) function is treated as a badge of honor.

Did you know? JOLT hosts several peer support groups. Each of these groups are led by people with lived experience. The goal of these groups are to provide mutual support to each other.

We currently offer the following groups:

Peer Support and Mutual Aid for people who use drugs, have a history of using drugs, or have loved ones that use drugs.

Red Umbrella Group for people who are engaged in s*x work, have a history of s*x work, or are just entering or leaving s*x work.

Trans Peer Support Group is for trans-identifying/non-binary individuals (of all ages) and their loved ones.

Tonight is the first meeting of the transgender support group at JOLT Harm Reduction! This is an all ages group, though minors are encouraged to attend with a parent or guardian for support and to go over potential topics covered in this support group with informed consent for parents and guardians. This is a peer led group for all people under the transgender and gender nonconforming umbrella.

August 25th was my final day at One Counseling and Wellness. I am grateful for my experience and the wonderfully skilled clinical team there. Change can be challenging and stressful, but change is important for growth. I am excited to announce that I will be joining OSF’s Adult Behavioral Health and Partial Hospitalization Program as a trauma recovery specialist with a start date of October 16th. I am enthusiastic to return to the organization where I completed my Master’s clinical internship and look forward to working with the integrative clinical team at OSF.

The way that you talk to yourself is SO important. Research shows that people who use positive self talk reported lower levels of anxiety. Be nice to yourself!❤️

ANNOUNCEMENT:

Beginning next week (April 11th), JOLT will be offering 2 groups each week for our Peer Support and Mutual Aid Group. Group days and times are:

Tuesday @ 6:00pm
Thursday @ 6:00pm

This expansion is to meet the growing demand for more of our unique peer groups. These groups are open to people who use drugs, regardless of whether they are still using or totally abstinent. We just ask that you not be intoxicated during the meeting to avoid triggering others during that time. This group is also open to all family and friends who love someone who is struggling with substance use.

We are excited to see these groups grow to meet the needs of those in our community who do not resonate with more traditional peer support groups, such as 12 step meetings or religious based support groups.

With great respect for Ram Dass who once said “We’re all just walking each other home.” Let’s care for each other by “rewiring” each other’s nervous systems with kindness, compassion, gentle words, healing synchrony, and loving rhythms. Practice “Restorative Embodiment” in yourself today to support others on the healing journey. We all need each others’ regulating rhythms.

Here's your challenge to slow down, take care of you, and open yourself up to something new. Have a wonderful day and hope to see you soon!

04/08/2021

Hello! It's wonderful to meet you. My name is Lorelei Volpe and I am a graduate from Bradley University - Class of 2021 with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have received my board certification and licensure and am now a Licensed Professional Counselor. I created this page to post articles about mental health, network with other providers, share links to community resources, and provide updates as to where you can find me for counseling services once I am licensed.

Some information about me:

- I graduated from Bradley in 2012 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and worked in the inpatient clinical mental health setting for just under 4 years while obtaining my Master's.

- I was a clinical intern at OSF Adult Behavioral Health, counseling individual outpatient clients and assisting with the partial hospitalization program under the supervision of a licensed clinical professional counselor.

- Counseling is very special to me because I truly enjoy the connection I get to make with my clients - I'm here to listen to YOU! I understand that every person I see is different, so I make sure to use a range of theoretical orientations to help my clients grow, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy, group therapy, motivational interviewing, psychotherapy, reality therapy, and client-centered therapy.

- Some topics I've worked with clients on: mood disorders (anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder), substance use (harm reduction and abstinence), gender and s*xuality, life adjustments, relationship problems, grief, social skills, cultural concerns, health and wellness, anger management, stress, and self-esteem.

- My sense of humor is important to my counseling style, I'm usually laughing and smiling and I hope to share that with you as a client.

- In my eyes, therapy is a collaborative process where you will learn new things about yourself - both good and bad. Sometimes we do things that negatively impact us without realizing it, so it's my job work with you without judgment to change maladaptive thought processes and behavior to start living a more congruent lifestyle that matches your core values and ethics. I try to incorporate dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help my clients let go of undue and unnecessary suffering by being more mindful and improving self-care across all spheres of their lives.

- One thing I love about Peoria is supporting local businesses and artists. Peoria also has some wonderful places to walk my dog, Shadow!

Thank you for taking the time to check out this page and learn a bit about me as a counselor. I look forward to working with you soon, you can find me at One Counseling and Wellness in Washington, IL. Have a truly wonderful day, I am grateful that you are here.
