Former Acme employee and longtime friend of many, Jim Reising, died yesterday morning at a nursing home in East Peoria. He had a series of strokes being housed in EP for past two years.

Acme probably wouldn’t exist without Jim. He convinced me to leave the record store business to work with him at Metropolis Comics. I had passing knowledge on comics but he was confident I would figure it out. Three years later I opened Acme in 1991 on Main Street with the help of him, Conrad Stinnett and Bob Herington. Bob later opened East Peoria Co-op with Jim as employee.

Over the years we did dozens of comic conventions together, spending hundreds of hours driving and discussing comics, movies, music, politics, religion and lots more.

His wit and knowledge will be missed as well as his often skewed cynical opinions of life. Jim was one of a kind.

This Day In Hollywood History Sept 17 1949 - Wile E. Coyote, Warner Bros. cartoon character created by Chuck Jones (Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series), first debuts in "Fast and Furry-ous"

Fast and Furry-ous is a 1949 Warner Bros. Looney Tunes cartoon, directed by Chuck Jones and written by Michael Maltese. The short was released on September 17, 1949, and stars Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, in their debut.

This was the debut of the Coyote/Road Runner pairing and set the template for the series, in which Wile E. Coyote (here given the mock genus/species name in faux-Latin Carnivorous Vulgaris) tries to catch the Road Runner (Accelleratii Incredibus) through many traps, plans and products. In this first cartoon, not all of the products are yet made by ACME.
