Yesterday the Peoria Area World Affairs Council (PAWAC) had the distinct pleasure of hosting General David Petraeus (Ret.) to a sold out audience to hear his program “A Four Star Tour of the World”. ⭐️🇺🇸🌎 Hearing the General’s perspective of foreign policy & leadership were veterans, students, civic leaders, and the like. Introducing our newest colleague: Pfiffikus, a Harris's hawk. He’s currently stationed at the German Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) in Berlin, where he is in his second year of training.

What's his job? Pfiffikus was brought onboard to scare pigeons and crows away with his intimidating presence. 🐦 This role is important for preserving the building’s structural integrity since bird droppings are corrosive and known to damage property.

Before Pfiffikus, our colleagues tried to keep pigeons and crows at bay using decoy birds of prey, to no avail. So, they brought in the real deal. 🦅

Yesterday the Peoria Area World Affairs Council (PAWAC) and East Peoria Chamber of Commerce welcomed the Ambassador Reyna Torres Mendivil of Mexico & Consul General Madeleine Féquière of Canada to present on Illinois’ impact on trade within North America. 🇺🇸🇲🇽🇨🇦 Following their program, members of PAWAC joined the delegation to tour Precision Planting’s new flagship distribution center in Morton. Ken Burns has been named guest curator for the museum’s upcoming exhibition: “America 250!”

The acclaimed documentary filmmaker will be partnering with the Peoria Riverfront Museum as a guest curator for upcoming major exhibition “America 250,” which celebrates America’s 250th birthday in 2026, also known as the semiquincentennial.

Known to PBS audiences for decades, and credited with nearly 40 documentary films on American subjects, Ken Burns is set to release a new series on the American Revolutionary War next year as the country begins to prepare for this historic anniversary.
