Stand up for victims of every form of abuse.
If you have been a victim of abuse, that is something that deeply impacts many aspects of your life. It is not your fault.
This hand gesture can be used by victims to signal in public that they are being exploited. Places of transport like airports, train stations, and rest stop areas on highways are where you need to look closely to see if there’s anything suspicious.
A common misconception is that all trafficking victims are kidnapped. In reality, most victims knew their trafficker personally and the relationship developed into exploitation over time.
When we talk about human trafficking, we have to remember that everyone can become a victim to it, but marginalized groups are far more vulnerable. Children in foster care are among the biggest targets for criminal traffickers.
Relationships can become abusive quietly, pay close attention to how your partner is with you.
Relationships often become toxic/abusive slowly, to the point where the victim doesn’t realize it’s happening. Pay attention to how they make you feel, and remember you do not have to stay silent and there is help out there.
There is an estimated 27 million victims of human trafficking worldwide, but actual numbers are likely much higher than that.
