This is why trauma healing involves awareness as the first step. So many people aren’t even aware of their triggers and coping mechanisms. Next, comes self compassion. “I do this because I’m feeling unsafe.” After self compassion is empowerment “I am an adult who can make new choices. Then begins the practice. The practice of setting boundaries with ourselves and practicing different ways to self soothe. It’s like learning to walk again, emotionally
