Abington, PA
987 Old Eagle School Road, Suite 705

Frequently Asked Question - How long should you breastfeed your baby?
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend that babies are exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life and continue breastfeeding while introducing solid foods for up to two years or longer.
We often tell families that you should continue to breastfeed as long as it's working for you and your family. However, the decision about when to stop breastfeeding is ultimately up to the parent and baby and can vary from child to child.
Milk production typically begins around the midpoint of pregnancy, between weeks 16 and 22.
*fun fact...breastmilk from those who give birth prematurely is different from milk from those who give birth at term. This is because premature babies have different needs than babies born at term, and breast milk changes to meet those needs!
Thank you to The Philadelphia City Fund for funding our 4th Trimester program. We just pulled together our report, and we're happy to say that 69 families in the North Philadelphia area received 3 months of breastfeeding support from the IBCLCs they met in the hospital!
π Wondering if you're using the proper fl**ge size for pumping? It's a hot topic right now!
When you first get your pump, it typically comes with 24-28 mm fl**ges. However, many find they need a smaller size for a better fit. Above are some tips to help you find your perfect fit:
π‘ These tips are a great start, but it's recommended that you do a fl**ge fitting session with multiple sizes while pumping. This hands-on approach will help you determine the best comfort and fl**ge size!
The BRC, home and office visits, offer a pump fl**ge fitting consult!

Many think skin to skin is just needed after delivery, but skin-to-skin is a great way to reconnect with your baby. Skin-to-skin can help baby get back to the breast after a nursing strike and itβs a wonderful way for our partners to bond with the baby too. It exposes baby to healthy bacteria on parent's skin and also helps baby to regulate temperature, heart rate, and breathing after birth. They are never too old to be snuggled skin to skin!
The BRC has been busier than EVER recently!
This means there are so many of you out there who may have questions, be struggling, or just want to talk to someone experiencing similar things.

You know you have a great staff when Barb answers the phone on the fourth of July when the office is closed, finds a desperate new mother on the other end, finds an LC on staff willing to see her (thank you Jesse!), and agrees to care for her child so the LC could see the mother immediately! Amazing!
