Up early with this true confession thought in my heart. As much as I have been surrounded by death, grief, and loss these past couple of years, and even now as I have lost two dear friends within a week of each other, my heart never wants to become hardened to the effects of grief! Why do I say that? Because when I heard of the loss of one of my friends, I literally broke down while at work. But what hurt worse was that the ones around me just pretty much walked on by and kept it moving. One literally said "Yeah, that sucks. You know the good ones always die young..." and kept going. My heart screamed and the tears came even harder. I was hurt.
I reached out and called another dear friend who spoke some really powerful words of wisdom to my life which I will share:
"Everybody is not going to care about a loss like you do. He may have been just 'someone' who died to them, but he was a 'somebody' special to you."
Right now I am thinking about and remembering my special 'somebodies'. One Homegoing is this Saturday, another is family and close friends only so I won't be attending. My heart hurts and is getting weary. But I never want to get to the place where I become hardened, unfeeling, unsympathetic, and/or unaffected by the pains of death, grief, and loss. Because once I get there it's time to hang up this ministry work.
I asked the Lord once "Lord, you allowed me to start this grief ministry after losing my love. But what happens to it when my heart heals?" The Lord answered and said "In this you will ALWAYS have something to give, minister, and share as long as you choose to have a passion, love, and heart for me and for the people that you are called to minister to. You will continue to heal, but then you won't be ministering and serving out of hurt and brokenness. But you will begin to minister and serve out of wisdom, knowledge, and experience as one who has gone through and come out." Oooohhhh...
Our Apostle just preached and taught about the pains and scars in our lives that even after God heals and brings us out, He allows us to remain as a testimony to His work in our lives and as a reminder to us of where He has brought us from. Paul spoke about "The Thorn in his Flesh."; Jesus was raised up but still had the nail holes in His hands. I guess the thorn in my flesh would be the pain I feel when I remember my sweet Mansur, my beautiful Auntie Gwen, and the others that I had to say goodbye to in an almost continuously 'rolling' sequence. In these things I say 'Amen.' as it keeps me humble and soft hearted, able to freely give love and compassion to others as unto the Lord.
It's tough. It's hard. It sucks - as my co worker so aptly put it. I truly miss just loving on kids and taking them on Field Trips sometimes. But, okay God, let your will be done. I'm here, continue to use me for your glory so that no one will ever have to go through Grief and Loss alone.
Wishing Everyone a blessed and prosperous Holy Week as we honor and celebrate our Lord and Savior!!!
Blessings!!!

Our Story
Faith Based, Community Based Non Profit Organization & Ministry
Beauty for Ashes, Inc. Bible based Modeling and Etiquette School for Progressive Youth, in existence since 2003, is a nonprofit organization and ministry whose sole purpose is to uplift young adolescents ages 5yrs – 18yrs through the teaching of basic modeling and etiquette principles, Art Appreciation Techniques, teaching of Life & Coping skills, and various other programs and services; while lining them up with basic biblical principles which motivate, encourage and builds the self esteem of the student. Beauty for Ashes, Inc. located in West Philadelphia is unlike any other modeling school in the city in the fact that we focus not only on the outward appearance of the adolescent, but we break down the walls of low self esteem and depression, then restore the student by focusing on teaching the principles of scriptural and moral character, of discovering inner beauty, of building emotional health, stability, and well being; which is all beauty from the inside out. All of this, through the sharing of the agape love of Jesus Christ.
