HAPPY "30" ANNIVERSARY to Arlita's lifelong Equne Bucket item. Thanks to the startup roots of WorkToRide, Leslie, Johnny, Ray, Richard, and Mistie, helping me turn my with Footprints 2 Hoofprints! Thanks to the first Work To Ride original junior team, Lonnie, Chris, Richard and Jose, they made working as a volunteer manager fun. Now they are all grown men.
This wasn't easy. I went through testing out 5 horses before I found the right one, Otto. Otto's owner, Nancy, graciously let me monopolize the use of him. In the beginning Otto had another idea. He was not interested in a beginner riding him. Otto was a former racetrack pacer, so plick plotting around in a small ring was not his idea of fun. He was much happier on the trails.
Thanks to the Chamounix Equestrian Center adult Polo Team member Ray Lane Nottage, for the us of his polo pony, I went barely being able to ride to play in a US Polo Association Women Tournament within a year. I took care and rode Pretty Boy for almost two years. Pretty Boy was happy with slower pace that I need to perform at in my training.
Then a big step up came with Ima Commander Cody, a hot hand full of horse, who at that time, he only had two speeds, walk and fly! Cody took my horsemanship skills from 2 to10! Cody taught me how to fly! There is nothing like that feeling, when you and your horse become one. Two of his favorite runs were from Strawberry Mansion Bridge to the Boathous Row Grandstand on East River Drive and Belmont Mansion, from Montgomery Baseball diamond to the tree at the top of the hill. "Let's Go", is all I needed to say to him. Along the you would here me say, "Flying horse, get your dogs!"
With Cody, I learned so many things along the way. I learned how to do a natural hoof trim, medical care and trick riding. Since he didn't like Polo or Hunt Jumping, I started doing Dressage with him. I then realized it time to get my own horse.
Out of a disaster, the universe gave me a gift, my own horse. Nash*ta, wasn't her registered name, but you knew who owned her.
Nash*ta, allowed to to increase my skills a a trainer. I took a horse that was afraid of running water down the street to riding from Andorra to the Art Musem and back in three months.
I am ready for my next horse!
Thanks to Work To Ride, I have been allowed to use a variety of skills for a mutual benefit; from PR, Sporting Marketing, Fundraising and Training.
The adventure is continuing. My have been used at the following:
Racing farms: working and training mares/foals/yearlings.
Breeding farms: Yearling Sales preparation grooming and training.
Racetrack: training and grooming
The adventure continues. . . .
