Join us next week for a NEW workshop, hosted by Frank Velásquez Jr., DEI changemaker, storyteller, and founder of 4 Da Hood LLC.
Imagine bringing your authentic self into leadership spaces without fear of judgment or others’ discomfort. Access to these spaces requires people of color to leave behind what makes them authentic and “fit” in. And white allies often don’t understand why. In this session, Frank Velásquez Jr. invites attendees to share their experiences and explore how dedicated learning spaces empower leaders and foster deep connections. People of Color and white allies will leave the session appreciating each other’s perspective and be better equipped to collectively lead with more authenticity and joy, transforming our communities in the process.

Social justice encompasses a wide range of issues and advocates for the fair treatment of all people, regardless of race, gender, s*xual orientation, ability or socioeconomic status.
Some of the most pressing social justice issues include:
Economic inequality: The gap between the rich and the poor is growing wider in many countries. This is a major social justice issue, leading to a lack of opportunity for the poor and marginalized.
Racial injustice: People of color are disproportionately affected by poverty, crime and violence and face discrimination in employment, housing and education.
Gender injustice: Women and girls have historically been denied the same rights and opportunities as men and face discrimination in the workplace, in education and in politics.
Disability injustice: People with disabilities are often denied the same rights and opportunities as people without disabilities and face discrimination at work and in their communities.
Environmental injustice: People of color and low-income communities are often disproportionately affected by environmental pollution and the impacts of climate change.

is an opportunity to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community.
Disability does not discriminate. There is no race, ethnicity, gender, s*xuality, or culture that does not have members with disabilities. But often, disability is excluded from conversations about diversity.
As the world puts a sharper focus on DEI and as so many corporations move to make their DEI policies better and more inclusive, there is work to be done to include disability as a pillar of the conversation rather than an afterthought.

What is the difference between gender and gender identity?
Gender is based on assumptions that society has formed about what women, men, girls, and boys should be like, rather than how they want to be.
S*x refers to the biological and physiological characteristics of males, females, and inters*x people — such as reproductive organs, hormones and chromosomes. Gender and s*x are often treated as the same thing when they are not.
Gender identity is neither of these things and refers to a person’s sense of their gender, which may or may not correspond to their s*x assigned at birth.
In the workplace, the need to create a space where non-binary, gender-fluid, and transgender individuals feel comfortable and want to participate is important to any DEI goals.
Taking the time to learn different perspectives can make all the difference.
