Homily Highlights | 4th Sunday of Easter | Deacon Tom invites us to take the time and silence to open our hearts to our vocation. How might we listen to God the good shepherd calling out to us (Latin word "vocare" means "to call")? So many stories of the Saints doing so, like St. Francis of Assisi and St. Ignatius of Loyola. Follow what brings us joy and what brings others to joy. There are so many calls... youth ministers, veterinarians, priesthood, gardeners, religious brothers and sisters, lawyers, accountants, air conditioner fixers... Take time and discover your calling.
Homily Highlights | Third Sunday of Easter | This week, Fr. Chuck instructs us on how the resurrection has only happened ever to one person. Jesus Christ. The dead resurrected - not raised like Lazarus who became resuscitated to the same life as before - happened. The impossible made possible. In times where violence occurs in other parts of the world and where strangers exist in our own communities, Fr. Chuck invites us to make the impossible possible... to communicate to the stranger the hope of our future resurrection, as Christ was resurrected. And with that, an impossible hope and peace can begin to grow. Let us communicate to others that hope and peace. Let the resurrected Christ come alive in our communities. Amen.
Homily Highlights | Divine Mercy Sunday / Second Sunday of Easter | Fr. Bob asks us some very provoking questions this week as we hear about Thomas doubting. Do we really believe? Do we believe in Christ's mercy in the sacrament of reconciliation, that we are forgiven? Do we believe in Jesus' true presence in the Eucharist? Do we bask in the joy and consolation found in Jesus' resurrection? Let's live out our lives in that radical belief, in that radical faith...
Bonus Easter Homily Highlight | Easter Day | Fr. Chuck promises us this homily would be a good one, as he preaches this message every year. How does the light of Christ make us see differently? How does it illuminate us in a way that allow us to see not the differences between us but when it shines upon a stranger, so that we see a brother or sister? What do you think? Was the homily a good one? We think so... :)
Men, please join us for the first meeting of our Men’s Ministry on April 13th at 7am in our Lower Level Atrium at our Parish Office!
Save the date! Come build community at our annual Easter celebration this year with music, dance, dinner, and drinks! Adults only. Tickets on sale soon after mass and in the office.
Apártanse la fecha! Vénganse y construyen comunidad en esta celebración Pascual con música, baile, cena y bebida! Para adultos. Pronto, los boletos se venden después de las misas y en la oficina.
Homily Highlights | Easter Vigil | In this special celebration, JOY abounds in symbols, the Word of God, and the sacraments abound! Fire presents God's warm welcome to us and allows us to come close to God. The Paschal Candle symbolizes Christ Resurrected being the light of the world. The Word of God with five scripture readings. Sacraments of baptism, communion, and confirmation. All signs pointing to our God, who has called for our family of God to increase! What JOY! Fr. Bob invites us to follow Jesus' command, "Go!" In the next week, who can we tell of our joyful story of conversion and faith? So, let us go...
Homily Highlights | Good Friday of the Lord's Passion | Fr. Chuck invites us not to focus on Jesus' physical suffering but on Jesus' faith, hope, and love that accepts all that is given to him, even through the loneliness and betrayal. How might we be inspired by Jesus to persevere as Jesus did, with love, to the very end of our own moments of despair?
Homily Highlights | Holy Thursday | With Jesus, he has given us new commandments. "Go and make disciples of every nation." "Do this in remembrance of me." And in today's Gospel, he commands us to wash other's feet as Jesus has with us. Fr. Eddie invites us allow Jesus and others to draw near to us, even with our own smelly feet - those things we feel ashamed of, or want to hide. In turn, how might we be called to help wash others' feet, in service of healing and bringing wholeness?
Homily Highlights | Passion Sunday | In today's mass, there were two gospel readings. Fr. Chuck explains how the disciples and almost everyone in the Gospel of Mark had a tough time understanding who Jesus was. In the end, a centurion makes a bold claim that expresses all understanding... "Truly, this man was the Son of God." In our lives, how might we make that claim?
Homily Highlights | Fifth Sunday of Lent | In difficulty of natural disasters and death, what does it mean that "God knows" versus "what God wills"? How much do we know of God feeling our sorrow, of God weeping in those difficulties? In Jesus being the resurrection and the life, Deacon Tom invites us to ask ourselves how we might respond to such...
Homily Highlights | Fourth Sunday of Lent | How might we, like the blind man, allow Jesus to break into our darkness and give us the light of his love? How might God be inviting us to look at our sin but in the presence of the immense love of God, who always labors for us out of love? This week, Fr. Eddie invites us to reflect on how we have always been loved by God and how we can see that we are continued to be loved by God...
Homily Highlights | 3rd Sunday of Lent | How might our continued Lenten practices of praying, fasting, and almsgiving put us in contact more with this God who desires to share love with us? In the midst of difficulty, how might we be called to ask God to change us and transform our stony hearts into hearts of flesh? Fr. Chuck encourages us not to wait but take the opportunity now to make a great change in us...
Homily Highlights | 2nd Sunday of Lent | How do we be open and receive God's pure gift, that is freely given without any measure of our own worthiness of such a gift? How might we reflect back and return to the Lord our thanksgiving? Fr. Chuck invites us to be transfigured and to be bask in God's goodness...
LENT WEEK #3 (FEB. 26 – MARCH 3)
What chores did you have at age 5? In rural Zambia and Malawi, young girls help collect drinking water for their families, often from distant rivers and hand-dug pits. This Lent, we encourage parishioners and all people of good will to pray, fast and give alms to the Wells of Salvation appeal. Our goal is to help bless 49,000 people in Zambia and Malawi with the gift of safe, clean water. Donate through the link in our bio and include our parish’s name in the memo. – CrossCatholic.org/Lent
– CrossCatholic.org/Lent
Lent Week 2 | Take a moment to pray for Happy Mhango, a widowed mother in rural Malawi. Happy converted to Catholicism in 2021, and shortly after, God answered her prayers for clean water: The Catholic Church drilled this well in her village! This week, Happy is featured in the free Lent activity guide, accessed through the link in our bio. While you’re there, please give what you can to bless more families in Africa with clean, safe water. - CrossCatholic.org/Lent
- CrossCatholic.org/Lent
Homily Highlights | First Sunday of Lent | How might we think of ourselves less such that we can give more to others? How might we remember Jesus' sacrifice for us during these 40 days as to our praying, fasting, and almsgiving? If you need an idea or two, Deacon Tom suggests going to our bulletin to help us with how we might fast...
Homily Highlights | Ash Wednesday | How might we make these ashes come alive on our foreheads, to acknowledge that we have a ways to go but with a God that loves us so much? How might we not bring in trumpets but ourselves in to our fasting, almsgiving, and prayer? How might we be invited to these communal ways of penance? Let's make this Lent more meaningful.
