The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in employment, public services, accommodations, transportation, and telecommunications, promoting equality and accessibility.
We did it! Thank you to all of the disability organizations in Arizona that helped bring a spotlight to this issue.
The Arc of Arizona, Inc., The Arc of Tucson and The Arc of the United States have trainings available to first responders on how to de-escalate and techniques for interacting with individuals with intellectual developmental disabilities. Families should also not have to rely on 911 for crisis interventions that should be treated by a mental health professional with experience working with dual diagnosed individuals. Events likes this one highlight the need for more research, funding and support with equal access to mental healthcare for the disability community as well as sensitivity training for officers.

HAPPENING TOMORROW! The Law Office of Emily R. Taylor is offering a workshop about Estate Planning for Family Members with a Disability: Special Needs Trusts this Saturday June 22nd 9 am to 10:30 am. This workshop aims to empower families with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively plan for the future of family members with disabilities.
