Pastore would like to remind everyone about the dozens of wonderful dogs waiting for homes at Heidi's Village! Their adoption fees are WAIVED for their entire stay, and there are so many pups to fit your home's needs.

Pastore, a playful, affectionate ball of sunshine, would thrive in a home with adults as mature as he is! He also would like to be your one and only dog, since he has all the personality you would ever need.

THANK YOU! Prada came in as a stray several months ago and caught a respiratory infection. Even after treatment, she wasn't eating. Arizona Border Collie Rescue, one of our New Hope Partners, stepped in to help her. Now, she's thriving in her foster home!

"She has been spayed, is house broken and is receiving basic training with her foster family. She plays well with her foster border collie brothers and loves the pool. Prada is ready to meet her forever family."

Prada is still adoptable through Arizona Border Collie Rescue! Visit her profile: https://azbcr.org/Adopt/AvailableBorderCollies/RescueDetails.aspx?rid=5988

Sadie is proof that shelter dogs can do it all πŸ™Œ After being adopted from the West shelter 2 years ago, she has gone on to become an award-winning dog with the American Kennel Club and even won 9th place at the AKC Rally National Championship last year.

As her owner tells us: "It is a great honor to have gone so far with my wonderful, incredible shelter dog. Shows how great these rescue pitties can be! They are so driven to please their owners and generally love to train."

Want a talented Sadie of your own? We have hundreds of dogs that are eager to please: Maricopa.gov/Pets

DO YOU KNOW THE SIGNS? β˜€οΈ It may be September, but it's going to be a hot week. Dogs cannot cool off as effectively as humans can, so please keep these symptoms of heat stroke in mind. You may save your pet's life.

What an amazing way to kick off our September Surge. πŸ’™ 106 dogs were adopted during our Clear the Shelters adoption special over the weekend, and we couldn't have done it without you! Some of our longtimers were able to find homes, and we are so thankful!

While these are wonderful adoption numbers, more dogs are coming in every day that still need homes. Consider stopping by our shelters this week to find your new best friend.

✨ Sunday Senior Spotlight ✨

It it possible for true love to come in the shape of a 34-pound old man? Roger thinks so. While he may look like a stout, courageous cowboy on the outside, on the inside he's one of those chihuahuas that are always shivering.

Roger is searching for his emotional support human. He's gentle, affectionate, and sometimes, he just needs assurance that the world isn't such a scary place. At 8 years old, what he dreams of most isn't playtime. It's retirement.

Roger and all of our other dogs 6 months and older have their adoption fees waived TODAY, Sept. 8, for the Clear the Shelters campaign: https://apps.pets.maricopa.gov/adoptPets/Home/Details/A4992273

Can we get to 1,100 adoptions in 30 days? πŸ’₯ An extra 150 adoptions above the average this month can help us bring down our capacity, meaning we can provide the best possible outcomes for our animals!

Right now, more dogs are coming in than are leaving. It's an unsustainable number. But an extra 150 adoptions can turn the tides for both the animals and the people who care for them. In total, we need an average of 36 adoptions a day.

Share. Spread the word. There are 4.5 million residents in Maricopa County. Every single adoption will help us reach our goal and ultimately improve the lives of our animals!

Campbell has decided to bless your feed with his presence today! While a foster generously stepped up for him, he's still dreaming of the big stage: his forever home! He typed out a letter about himself that he wanted us to share with you all.

"Hi my name is Campbell! (my foster parents call me Angus). I am a happy boy who is always smiling. I love going on walks, playing fetch, playing with other dogs, and cuddling on the couch. I also LOVE to be pet and carrying my toys. I am in search of a loving companion who can shower me with affection daily, and I promise to reciprocate that love!"

We hope that this is enough proof that he is the perfect dog. Please email [email protected] if you'd like to meet him: https://apps.pets.maricopa.gov/adoptPets/Home/Details/A4986831

After more than 250 days in the shelter, sweet Balboa has found a home - and it's all thanks to YOU! After we posted a plea for an adopter to help care for his medical needs, his post went viral and was picked up by Newsweek. His adopter came across his article online, and the rest is history.

There are more than 1,000 Balboas currently in the shelter waiting for their chance at a forever home. Puppies, adults, seniors - we have them all. You could change the life of one of these incredible dogs for the better!

This Labor Day weekend, 143 stray dogs came into our care. This is what crisis capacity looks like - dogs are sitting in holding kennels in the hallway, waiting for an actual kennel to open up. We are hundreds of dogs beyond what our facilities are equipped to hold.

✨ Sunday Senior Spotlight ✨

Marit is, to put it simply, the nicest dog around. He's the type of dog who won't send back an incorrect order at a restaurant because he's too polite. He will, however, gently paw you to remind you that you must be petting him at all times.

Marit is running for mayor next year, and he believes all of the world's problems could be solved if everyone just gave each other belly rubs. However, if he wants to promote his message, he'll need to find a forever home.

Meet the sweet Marit at our East shelter: https://apps.pets.maricopa.gov/adoptPets/Home/Details/A4989731

With nearly 1,000 dogs currently in our care, weekend adoptions are critical in reducing our shelter population. Even during a holiday weekend, intakes do not stop. By adopting from us this Labor Day, you can help find dogs loving forever homes while also freeing up kennel space for the next pup!

We have dogs of all ages, breeds, sizes and temperaments, all for an affordable adoption fee that includes spay/neuter, vaccines and microchip.

🐾 Friday Foster Feature 🐾

Is Maddox a dog or a honey baked ham? His foster family is still trying to find the answer. This charming 7-year-old is suspected of having vestibular disease, which can cause an unusual head tilt or loss of balance. Despite his quirks, he is having the best time in foster and is even taking training classes.

"Maddox is wonderful!! So sweet and mellow. I think his head tilt is improving too! He’s eating great now and drinking plenty of water. He seems very happy and comfortable!"

Milo is back home. πŸ’™ This runaway pup found himself at MCACC, and our field team went to work trying to find his family. Animal Services Officer Neely, who is always busy researching lost dogs that come into the shelter, was able to track down Milo's owner.

The owner used a ridesharing service to come pick up his dog, but the driver of the vehicle wouldn't allow pets in the car. So our Field team went the extra mile. Ofc. Neely took a field truck and brought Milo straight to his dad!

Thanks to MCACC Field Officers and Ofc. Neely for going the extra mile and getting lost pets back home!

UPDATE: Adopted πŸ’™

Our community stepped up for Balboa, who is currently settling in to his new home. Can we do the same for Flume?

Flume is another longtimer who is at risk due to kennel deterioration. In total, she has spent over 90 days in the shelter, and was returned once due to not getting along with a dog in a previous home. Since her return, she has been seen leaping high, circling, growling and barking at staff members passing by. Due to her high levels of anxiety, stress and frustration, she needs to find an adopter by close of business Sept. 2.

Flume is a volunteer favorite, and while she's timid at first, she's affectionate to those who earn her trust. She loves getting all the attention, and she would do best in an active home that can get her zoomies out. Her temperament changes when she's in a kennel, surrounded by dozens of barking dogs.

We do recommend that she be your one and only dog, and that potential adopters go slow with her. Adopters should be prepared to handle a high-energy pup in need of lengthy decompression time. She is at our West shelter, and her adoption fees are waived: https://apps.pets.maricopa.gov/adoptPets/Home/Details/A4971125
