Sunken Bus Studios
Sunken Bus Studios is a live performance venue, a film company, and a full post-production house all in one. Coming to Pittsburgh summer 2023.
THANK YOU to the fine folks at Edward Simon & Co for getting us all set up in the audio/visual department! ⭐️
WAIT ‘til you see what these lights can do!! (just as sooon as we figure out how to use ‘em. Jk…sorta…it’s cool, trust me.) 😏🎙️✨
Step through the TARDIS door and see for yourself: “It’s bigger on the inside.” 🌀✨
This bathroom transformation is just… *chef’s kiss* 🧑🍳 💋
Tag the next comedian you’d like to see on our stage! 🎤💌
Now that things are coming together (SO many things!) and some of the dust has cleared (SO much dust!😫) we wanted to give you a sneak peak of this fabulous fine art collection we were given the honor to display in our space.
The exhibit, titled “…That's Another One For The Fire!" Rogue's Gallery Of Comedic Stand-Ups, was brought to us by the wildly talented Oscar Quesada . Residing in Dallas, Texas, Oscar was inspired to create this collection during the Covid pandemic to pay homage to some of the greats who helped him combat the darkness felt by himself and the community in these times.
Oscar states “I realize that like many others that were quarantining, these posted comedy segments saved our sanities, during this profoundly non-social time in the world history.”
His work has helped bring a unique and colorful personality, much like his own, to our space and we hope to grow and replenish the ongoing exhibit. All of the paintings are one of a kind and available for purchase! (Except the - which has already SOLD 😉)
Thanks again, Oscar, and we hope to do a proper showing when we are permitted. 💛
We CAN’T WAIT to open these doors and start this adventure!
we’ve come a long way!✨
It’s crazy looking back at these before pictures now. At times it felt like we’d never get here, but we are SO dang close! 🤭😆🙌
The response to the Sunken Bus Studios mural has been overwhelmingly positive. Also, it is having an added benefit: keeping homophobes from attending shows.
I believe in causing good trouble.
When I commissioned the mural on the side of the Steel City Arts Foundation, I was not prepared for the ordeal that it would create. We had done two months of due diligence, had a ton of support from our neighbors, and most people loved it when it was painted. Unfortunately, a few neighbors weaponized an old building code in order to get us to change it.
We’re still not sure what the new mural will say. Despite the approval of Fred Rogers, we ran into a licensing snag with the phrase “Won’t You Be My Neighbor” so that mural is on hold for now while we do our best to think of something wonderful.
But for the murals on the forthcoming Sunken Bus Studios, we have found exactly that.
Teaming up once again with the super talented Pittsburghers John Maurice Muldoon and Sean Coffey, we have created two giant murals totaling over 1,000 square feet that can be seen from almost half a mile away.
The south side of the building features a hand holding a microphone with the phrase “stand up.” The north side shows one person playing guitar and another playing saxophone with the phrase “make noise.” Both images are in front of an impossible to miss bright yellow background, and the people’s nails are rainbow colored.
The murals, which were approved by the township, have a lot of meaning. Sure, they’re about inclusion, tolerance, and community. But the phrases “stand up” and “make noise” were chosen not just as a reference to the arts depicted, but as a reminder that staying silent has never changed anything.
I am so proud of how these murals have already been received. Even while they were being painted, neighbors were honking, waving, and stopping by to thank the artists. And while I’m sure we’ll have a few naysayers this time too, I don’t mind making some good trouble.
There is so much more work to do before Sunken Bus Studios can open, but we are damn proud of the message we’re already able to send. So come by, take a picture, and let the world know that you’re willing to stand up and make some noise, too.
Thank you.

Making some progress over here this week! Follow along as we transform this space into a unique live event, film production, and all around creative hub for local arts & entertainment. 😎
We are stoked to introduce one of our incredibly talented collaborators here at Sunken Bus!
Red Caiman Media ( ), Pittsburgh’s premier recording studio, with high-profile clients such as Andrea Bocelli, Ewan McGregor, and Leslie Odom Jr., is relocating its downtown studios to our building! In addition to their regular business, they will be collaborating with Sunken Bus to transform multiple rooms into state-of-the-art post-production facilities that will aid in the film production side of our business.
When renovations are complete, not only will Sunken Bus Studios have the capacity to host events for 200-300 attendees, but it will also function as a venue for set building, filming, audio and post-production. 🎞️
