The Reswell-VUCAH Working Group held its inaugural meeting on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. The meeting saw a diverse group of members, each of whom introduced themselves and shared their hopes and visions for the group. A key part of the meeting involved agreeing on the logo, vision, mission, and goals of the group. The meeting also featured presentations by Mia Buzariashvili on the psychological and physiological effects of each VUCAH component and by Salome Dumbadze about her Ph.D. and Georgian VUCAH Group. The meeting ended with discussions about monitoring the VUCAH crisis situation in Israel and proposing new VUCAH research projects, setting the stage for future collaboration and innovation in the field.

The birth of The Mental Wellness Society – International coincided with the onset of the COVID era, extending a helping hand to First Responders and Healthcare professionals worldwide. Our primary focus was on averting vicarious trauma and burnout among those tirelessly aiding others. As we stood at 2,000 members strong, the conflict in Ukraine unfolded, prompting over 450 immediate volunteers from our ranks to form a task force and provide assistance. The success was monumental. Now, with a global membership exceeding 11,000, a new challenge looms.

Today marks the launch of the MWS Task Force “Mental Wellness and Well-being Resilience in Israel,” a beacon radiating hope and progress in the mental wellness field. Dedicated to fortifying the psychological well-being of individuals across Israel, our international team of professionals is poised to toil relentlessly in establishing a resilient and supportive environment, coupled with comprehensive training for those aiding others.

Our holistic approach acknowledges the integral role mental wellness plays in overall well-being. Through cultivating community, understanding, and empathy, our mission is to advance awareness and access to innovative approaches to psychological health. Armed with educational programs, outreach initiatives, and strategic partnerships, we aspire to foster a society that places mental wellness on par with physical health.

Anxiety is a normal response to stress but can also be a debilitating mental health condition if left untreated. It can manifest in different ways, from feeling worrisome or fearful to experiencing panic attacks and phobias. That's why this year's Mental Health Awareness Week has focused on anxiety and its effects on our mental health.

Anxiety is a broad term to describe a range of emotional and physical symptoms related to fear, worry, and stress. It's estimated that one in four people will experience anxiety at some point in their lives, making it one of the most prevalent mental health conditions worldwide. The most common types of anxiety include generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and phobias. Symptoms can include excessive worry, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, muscle tension, and insomnia. If left untreated, anxiety can significantly impact daily functioning, including work, relationships, and physical health.

Resilience is the ability to adapt to adversity, cope with stress, and thrive despite difficulties. Building resilience can help prevent anxiety and stress by providing people with the tools and skills to navigate challenging situations. Other ways to improve resilience include practicing self-care by eating healthily, staying active, and sleeping well; engaging in social connection with friends and family; and developing effective coping strategies, such as meditation, journaling, or therapy.

Seeking Help for Anxiety and Stress

If you're experiencing anxiety or stress, seeking help is critical. Unfortunately, there is still a stigma surrounding mental health issues that can prevent people from reaching out for support. However, there are many resources available that can help, including therapy, counseling, medication, and support groups. It's essential to know that asking for help is a sign of strength, and getting help can improve mental health outcomes significantly. Supporting loved ones with mental health issues can also help decrease stigma and increase awareness.

Improving your mental health starts with taking steps that are tailored to your individual needs and circumstances. While there is no one-size-fits-all approach, one general step that can be helpful for most people is making better decisions. Better decision-making can help you recognize that you may need help, accept that you may be struggling with your mental health, and understand that seeking help is a positive step toward feeling better. Moreover, better decision-making helps you prioritize self-care, which is crucial for maintaining good mental health.
