☀️ Hola! ☀️ June SHIM in the books! 🦷 🪥 Our members had such an awesome time doing dental bingo, teaching suturing, and answering all the questions the kids had about dentistry! 🪡 🧵 🦷 🪥

This past week our team of dedicated student dentists brought relief to the heart of the Honduran mountains. Here, dental care is a luxury. Over 4 days, we provided dental services to over 150 patients, applied fluoride, and gave oral hygiene education to many more. Our mission transcended borders, leaving a lasting impact on both the communities we served and our amazing team.

Thank you to all our patients for their gratitude, love, and for giving us an experience we will never forget! We are so excited to continue the mission trip next year, and reach even more people in the Honduran mountains. 🌿🦷🌎

Join HSDA this Thursday, March 21st, to learn how to properly drill a class II preparation! Stop by to receive tons of tips from the upperclassman about how to properly and successfully perform a class II, so you can crush your practical exam! Class IIs can be challenging, so it’s nice to get a lot of feedback when possible! We hope to see you all there!!🦷

We had another super successful español y empandas session yesterday, focused on restorative dentistry! Thank you Dakota and Keyri for teaching us words such as relleno and pulir, so we can explain treatments to our Spanish-speaking patients in clinic! Another successful SHIM in the books! Yesterday at SHIM, we switched gears and did dental trivia with the students! We made a PowerPoint with a bunch of trivia facts, and then had the kids team up play Kahoot after (swipe to see the winning team)! Did you know you produce enough saliva in your lifetime to fill 53 BATHTUBS? After, we did an activity where we had the students try and place missing teeth in an arch with the correct ones! We had a blast with the kids and teaching them even more about teeth and dentistry 😄 Huge shout out and thank you to our volunteers: Zainab, Gaby, Ryan, Michael, and Mya for your help planning this event!🌟

We had a blast again at SHIM yesterday! As we’ve done in the past, we showed the kids how to make impressions of their fingers! We also discussed with them the importance of oral hygiene, explained how cavities happen, and discussed the process of getting to dental school! We definitely had a few future dentists in this group😉 SHIM is always so much fun, and we look forward to working with the kids again next year!

This past Friday, our members had a blast chatting it up and enjoying some delicious tacos at Madero! Thank you to everyone who came, we had a great time! We can’t wait for our next social event😄🌮🥳

In addition to español y empanadas on Wednesday, many of our members enjoyed tacos from the El Sabor food truck! We hope you all enjoyed, and we look forward to seeing you at our next food truck (Cilantro y Ajo) on October 18!🌮🌟🌮

Our first español y empanadas event on Wednesday was a HUGE success!! Thank you all so much for coming and for your eagerness to learn dental Spanish🤩 We cannot wait for our next session and to practice more dental spanish (and chow down on more empanadas of course!)🥳🌟

This semester, we are excited to host salsa lessons💃🏻 join us to learn some sick salsa moves and show off your dancing skills💃🏻🪩🥳 this event is open to non-members as well for a fee of $5 a class! We hope to see you all there🌟

Last but certainly not least, introducing our President, Emyli! Emyli has been an active member of HSDA for three years, and she has initiated so many of the events we currently host! Out of all our events, her favorite is SALUD Para Niños, as Emyli loves working with kids!🌟

Next up is our Vice President, Claudia! Claudia loves giving back to the community at our SALUD Para Niños volunteering sessions! 🌟

Introducing our Treasurer, Michael! His favorite event is SHIM Volunteering, where he showed kids how to make impressions of their finger!🌟

Next up we have our Secretary, AJ! AJ’s favorite event is SALUD Para Niños, where he has the opportunity to place topical fluoride on Hispanic children in the community!🌟

Introducing our Social Media Rep, Mya! Although she is Cuban, Mya doesn’t speak Spanish. She loves the Español y empanada events to help her learn it so she can speak to Hispanic patients in the future!🌟

Next up we have our Director of Dental Outreach, Sonia! Sonia came up with the great idea to host salsa lessons this year, which is one of the events she’s most excited for🌟

Next up we have our Assistant Director of Dental Outreach, Dakota! His main role is to help us plan and fundraise for our mission trip, so he’s most excited about returning to Honduras and providing dental care🌟

Our next D1 Rep is Keyri! She’s most excited to give back to and help those who need dental care in Hondoras🌟
