A speck on the landscape! This photo just puts into perspective how such a large elk can look small in its Rocky Mountain environment.
•
•
•
Up close and personal! This bull in the Rockies just left his wallow in search of his cows. We’re now entering the best time of year to be in the woods chasing these amazing animals with the camera or stick and string.

One month has come and gone since I set up my Moultrie Products Edge 2 Cellular Trail Camera on a farm that I have permission to photograph and hunt at. Throughout the month, the Edge 2 sent photos and videos directly to my phone through the Moultrie Mobile app. Hands down, this is the best cellular trail camera on the market today. If you need any proof of that, stick around and see some of the amazing 36MP photos and 1080p videos this camera takes (starting at the 3:00 mark)! Link is in the comments!
Happy Moultrie Products Monday! Another mature buck has made an appearance on camera! It’s incredible how clear these images are!

Even though I’ve only been to Town of Davis, WV once on a little weekend trip, views like these make me ready to go back!

It’s been a while since I’ve been out with the camera, so here’s a throwback to earlier this spring chasing red-winged black birds!

Happy Moultrie Products Monday! One of my favorite features on the new Edge 2 Cellular Trail Cameras is the quality of videos they record! Stay tuned for more videos coming soon on YouTube!•••
Happy Moultrie Products Monday! Pretty soon, the velvet will come off and these bucks will start to show their true colors! Fall is on the horizon!
•
•
•
The summer coats are transitioning from oranges to browns, velvet is barely holding onto hard horned antlers, and mornings feel more like fall.
•
•
•
It’s hard to believe the velvet will only be on for a little while longer! Hard-horn season is coming soon!

Happy Moultrie Products Monday! Today’s picture is brought to you by this incredible buck just passing through some soybeans. As a photographer, I enjoy setting up these cameras to see if there are big bucks to photograph in the area. Suffice it to say, there definitely is at least one big one!

All I can say is FINALLY! After an interesting start to the year behind the lens, I hadn’t had any real opportunities to photograph a decent whitetail buck. Last night, that all changed! Thankful to have ran into this buck in such an interesting scene!

•
I haven’t made it out to Benezette as much as I thought I would this year, resulting in missing out on some big, velvet bulls. So here’s a throwback to a few summers ago to a decent bull in the morning light!

•
Let me interrupt these daily whitetail and hunting posts to bring you a young bull with some great foreground!

Happy Moultrie Products Monday here at Shots By Shopes! Here’s an image of the new Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 deployed out at my in-laws farm. It’s one of the easiest cellular cameras to use - in my opinion! Hoping for some good trail camera pictures coming soon!

When the leaves turn red, you know it’s hunting season!

Nobody enjoys seeing the backside of a deer, but the rim lighting on this bucks velvet antlers is enough to make an exception!

Deer tracks can tell you a lot of information. Tracks to tell you the size of the bucks in the area, what individual bucks have been hanging around and how many different big bucks are using the same area. Next time you see some tracks in the dirt, take a minute to see what you can learn from them.

Not every buck is going to be a 140+ inch stud!

Hittin’ the Grocery Store! After years of living around farms, I’m wishing I would’ve started diving into the world of photography earlier. Who knows how many big buck encounters could’ve been photographed then. But now, it’s just motivation to get back out there.

This velvet buck is trying to steal all of the attention from everyone else in the field!

This picture is still one of my favorites, taken at our camp years ago! But here’s a little surprise…I’m not the one that took it! My parents were driving along the backroads at camp when they looked out the window and saw this brute standing out in the open. My Mom pulled up her camera and snapped a few pictures - this one being the best! I guess photography runs deep in the family! It’s still one of the biggest bucks ever photographed around our camp 🦌

October afternoon walks to the stand are closer than we think. What are you doing to get ready for the season?

Get ready! Pennsylvania’s Statewide Archery Season kicks off October 5th. Who else is ready for dropping temperatures, changing leaves, and the whitetail rut?!

Shoutout to ScentLok for the share! Make sure you head on over and grab some gear before your hunting season starts!

PC:
For a while now, I’ve thought about the idea of posting photographs I’ve taken related to hunting, whether that be scouting, building arrows, shooting targets, hanging tree stands, and other activities pertaining to hunting. The hesitation comes from the fact that this page has strictly been a “wildlife only” page (to some point), but now, it’s time to integrate both hobbies into one. Every once in a while, some images pertaining to the process of hunting will be shared. It’s just who I am deep down - a so-called huntervationist (part hunter, part conservationist). So, with all that said, here’s an image from a few shed hunting seasons ago!
