Your input about our Community Health Needs was very appreciated. We are excited about these opportunities to make a positive change within our community! As a result, the following needs were identified and prioritized in order of importance based on the perceived urgency in the community:

• Community members indicated that support, services, and education for children and families with special needs and complex medical issues was their highest community health priority.
• They also indicated that that access to pediatric therapy services (including physical therapy, occupational therapy, feeding therapy, speech therapy, developmental therapy, and vision impairment support) was their highest services priority.

Our Staff Spotlight for this month is Amanda Lowe!

Amanda is our SWAN Program Manager and she has been with The Children’s Home for over 10 years, starting back in April 2013 as a Social Worker. She has shown tremendous work and with that has been promoted throughout the years with her most recent position as the SWAN Program Manager where is responsible for overseeing all functions of the SWAN program. Amanda is a great asset to the Adoption Program!

Child's Way Summer Camp was a blast! ☀️✨

We kicked off summer at The Children's Home with an awesome week filled with fun and enriching activities! Our kiddos had the opportunity to experience a week of camp that included indoor fishing, many crafts, bubbles, dance parties, tie-dye shirts, baseball games, and making many happy memories.

A huge thank you to our newly expanded Therapy Services team for making camp a success! Also, thank you to the many Duquesne University students who volunteered their time to help make this week so memorable for our kids.

Dr. Christine Roman, PhD, our Director of Pediatric VIEW, and Lindsay Hillier, M.Ed., are in South Africa presenting a CVI Professional Development Training. We are so excited to announce that Christopher Russell, MS. Ed., TVI will be our Keynote Speaker for our 2nd Annual Innovations in CVI Conference on October 3rd and 4th.

Chris currently works as a special education teacher and teacher of students with visual impairments in New York City Department of Education’s Hospital Schools. He previously served as Project Coordinator for the New York Deaf-Blind Collaborative for 8 years. He is an adjunct faculty at Hunter College in the graduate programs for Blindness/Visual Impairment and Severe & Multiple Disabilities and he holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Queens College. We are thrilled to have Christopher Russell present at the 2nd Annual CVI Conference!
