The Birthing of The EmpowHer Project
The EmpowHer Project was initially founded in February 2018 and introduced to the Pittsburgh community in Oct0ber 2018, by President and Founder Brittany Dreher. Being raised by a single mother almost her entire life, having friends and family who were predominately raised by single mothers, and experiencing almost her entire pregnancy single and alone, inspired her to create this organization. However, in spite of all of her trials and tribulations she went on to obtain a successful business career, excel academically, and still accomplish her goals and dreams with her son who continuously motivates and pushes her to be her best self. And, although she is currently not a single mother, witnessing the experiences of single mothers around her and through her own personal experiences, she knew she couldn’t stand by and remain idol while single mothers in the community continue to need support. Not only does this organization support single moms but they also support their children as well, as you know, it takes a village to raise a child. And, The EmpowHer Project wants to be that village for both. This is not an organization that only supports single mother families by just providing financial assistance if needed, one time support, and never following up. Brittany and the entire organization truly care about the mothers they encounter, EmpowHer, mentor, and support and want to maintain these relationships.
A message from the Founder: “I strongly believe that in order for a child to thrive and reach his/her fullest potential it starts with the parents and the village that raises them. Its unfortunate, but in today's society there are so many single parent households, especially with single mothers. Therefore, I created this organization to provide single mothers with the desired life skills they need to ensure they are supported, motivated, encouraged, inspired, and empowered to be their best, and to have the brightest future possible for themselves and their children”. ~Brittany M.
