Our Pediatric Palliative Care by HospiceCare in The Berkshires (PPC) team has had a very busy year serving 41 children and their families in Berkshire County. People often say to our team “you must be angels” for working with medically fragile children. Honestly, we are the ones that feel blessed focusing on quality of life with these children and families. Our PPC kids and families are resilient, strong and beautiful.
Checkout our staff and family fun activities in 2021. We are looking forward to another year with these special children and hope to continue growing this program.
Palliative Care: YOU Are a BRIDGE
Palliative care can be confusing, but here’s a helpful analogy: Imagine your body is like a bridge. When the bridge is sound, you can handle anything. Watch this video to learn more: http://bit.ly/2Dyhxr3.
This video animation compares palliative care to the foundation of a bridge. While illness may weaken the foundation, the palliative care team provides a str...

SickKids VS: MomStrong
Every day should be Mother's Day, especially for these mothers/parents. They deserve all the recognition we can give.

Pediatric Palliative Care Network (PPCN)
Welcome to the Pediatric Palliative Care (PPC) by HospiceCare in The Berkshire page! The PPC team serves children (aged 0-18) in Berkshire County with potentially life-limiting illness. We realize that a diagnosis of a serious illness effects the entire family. To ensure that your child, your family, and you get the support you need, we offer nursing case management, spiritual care, social services, volunteer support, respite care, and complimentary therapies (music, art, Reiki, massage). Your family may choose which services would be most helpful. To learn more about PPC and the larger PPC network, visit www.mass.gov/ppcn.
Jenna Herrmann - PEDIATRIC PALLIATIVE CARE VOLUNTEER. Jenna grew up in Dalton, Massachusetts and currently works for Berkshire Health Systems as a certified EKG Tech and a Cardiac Stress Tech. She has her Bachelor of Science in human biology from North Carolina State University, and is pursuing a career as a Physician's Assistant. In addition to volunteering for the PPC team, Jenna is also an active volunteer for Global Brigades, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to implement a holistic model to rural communities where there is a general lack of resources and opportunity. As a new member of the team, Jenna is excited to learn more about the Pediatric Palliative Care community and contribute as much as possible.

The first of our ornaments for the PPC tree has come in! The children in the Pediatric Palliative Care program are once again decorating a tree for the Festival of Trees at the Berkshire Museum. The theme this year is Heroes that Inspire Us. Liam is a sweet loving little boy. Definitely an inspirational Super Hero to his family and all of us on the PPC team.
Two years ago the Pediatric Palliative Care program started reverse trick-or-treating and it’s quickly turned into a huge hit with our staff and families! As many children in the PPC program are unable to trick-or-treat due to mobility, immunity, and other concerns, staff members reverse the idea behind trick-or-treating and bring the Halloween fun directly to them. Staff members and volunteers get dressed up in costume and deliver candy and other treats to PPC patients so they get to enjoy the full experience – something the PPC program strives to do every day by focusing on quality of life and helping families.
