Each year I attend a three day seminar for primary care providers in Houston. They present updates in various specialties. There was one sponsor that I found particularly interesting. It is a company that does what is called the Galleri test. This is a blood test that will test for fifty different types of cancer including ones like a**l, pancreatic, ovarian, lung, etc. Usually, we are pretty limited with cancers that we can screen for like colon (colonoscopy), breast (mammogram) and prostate (PSA). The test is a little pricey but the rep assured me that they work with patients on payment options. It costs $949 currently. I know it sounds like I'm doing an ad for it but I just thought it was cool. I think this is the start of what will become a standard in the future. Insurance companies love preventative options so that should propel this technology to advance quickly in the next few years.
