Melissa "Missy" Stoneberger's Journey began in Hawaii on May 16, 1976. Missy lived her life as many of us aspire to. She was loving, kind and always willing to lend a helping hand. She is an inspiration to so many. For Missy, there were no excuses. With only 30% of her vision, she still painted at home, church, and the Creative Grown Art Center. Today, May 15th at 11:59pm PT, is the deadline for the 2023 MSF Scholarship application.
Meet Anna Mares, a student at Wheaton College. Anna shared her thoughts on receiving the 2022 MSF Scholarship, "This scholarship is curated around the passion of continuing Melissa Stoneberger’s goal to help those in need. To be included and considered a scholarship recipient is much more than the financial prize, however this scholarship will be the reason I can attend my dream school and work toward graduating debt free. I can’t say thank you enough to the wonderful people working to make the world a better place through this fund."
"Receiving this scholarship not only means that I am able to pursue my further education with less of a financial burden, it means I am one step closer to my dream of giving back to others by becoming a Physician’s Assistant. This scholarship makes all the difference by allowing me easier access to achieve my goals and continue my lifelong plan of helping others. I am honored to be selected in memorial of Melissa Stoneberger as I read all about her and her story and was taken back by how much of an incredible person she was and how she dedicated her time on Earth to helping others and giving back. I am truly humbled to be selected as someone who embodies Melissa’s characteristics and will continue to do so as I venture throughout life." - Paige Van Orden

Aloha! The University of Hawaii at Monoa is home to one of our 2022 MSF scholarship recipients, Amethyst Alvaro. Here is what Amethyst said about receiving this scholarship, "I am very thankful for the foundation choosing me as a lucky recipient. I will not let them down and I will continue to work hard throughout my college education. With this scholarship, I can pursue my dreams of being a nurse and as the MSF states, implement a positive change in the world."
Meet Arjun Daya, a sophomore at Arizona State University.
"Receiving this scholarship during my first year of college allowed me to explore organizations around ASU and discover new passions. Moving to my second year, the Melissa Stoneberger Foundation Scholarship will allow me to do the same. Thank you for helping me further my education and making me one step closer to achieving my academic and career goals."
Meet Nancy Romano Flores, a 2022 Melissa Stoneberger Foundation scholarship recipient, attending Oklahoma State University.
"Receiving this scholarship has helped me be one step closer to reaching my educational goals. Additionally, this scholarship has decreased the financial burden as a first-gen college student. I am double majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Spanish, and my goal is to become a Speech-Language Pathologist."
Three short years flew by, and our scholarship recipient is graduating with her undergrad and moving to the med school lane. Congratulations to Mia Young! Here is what Mia said about being one of our 2022 MSF Scholarship recipients, "I am so thankful to be receiving this scholarship. This foundation's generosity will allow me to continue pursuing my dream of becoming a doctor and impacting more lives than I could ever dream of, the same way Melissa did. I will use this scholarship to help further my research and education at Oklahoma State University through this year and into the future! I cannot wait to see what this next year holds! "
Meet Anthony Carranza, a junior at Oklahoma City University. "The Melissa Stoneberger Foundation Scholarship has offered me the opportunity to attend college for the past two years, and now I am honored to say that this foundation is doing the same again for me this upcoming academic year. I am going to be a Junior majoring in Business Entrepreneurship and Human Performance. My time here has been an uplifting and challenging experience, with still so much ahead of me! I’m forever grateful for what this Foundation has done for me, and I’m most grateful to be sharing Missy’s story, since she has truly changed my life. I wouldn’t be able to be where I am without this amazing foundation. To be awarded this scholarship means so much, not just to be, but to my family, and the community that has rallied the way towards helping me pursue my dreams!"
